I'm wondering if this block is made with strips then cut into triangles. This would produce those mitred corners.

Thank you, SuzSLO for finding the picture and the pattern!!

I was thinking it may be strips and sort of quarter square triangles, but couldn't figure out without a whole lot of scraps.

I love this quilt--wish it was mine but not.
Might try to make a sample of this with just one block to see how the corners work.
They have 3 sets of stitches so that will take a bit of thunking on my part.

Sorry I didn't jump in sooner -- I hadn't seen this thread, but SuzSLO alerted me to it. Guess you've got it all figured out now!

Isn't that a square with a sewn border. Take two complimentary blocks and HST blocks. One block would be dark middle and light border; other square would be light middle and dark sashing. Then layered and sewn into HST blocks?

Thank you, thank you everyone for helping to identify this beautiful quilt. And thank you, Cat-on-a-mac for making it and inspiring us (well, mostly me, because I just love, love, love it)! :-)
