I open up my dining table as far as it will go and set my sewing machine down into the middle of it. The plexiglass quilting top goes in next and I then snug in the top till I have a smooth working surface. I cut pieces of styrofoam to fit the back part of the table and cover it with heavy duty vinyl. Not fancy but makes for a large surface to hold my quilt as I quilt it. Not only that, it was a cheap solution to an expensive problem! (No sewing table).

I have a vintage Kenmore in a cabinet with a motorized shelf to move the machine up and down. I also use an executive desk I bought at Restore for $15 for my emb machine and my portable Brother sewing machine. The desk has two pullout shelves on either side plus drawers on either side. I'm debating having my DH cut a hole in the desk so I can sit the machines lower but I haven't decided if I want to to do that yet.

I use my old dining table that was replaced in 1998 with a smaller round table. The table I use is one of the farmhouse tables with the white tile top. It's a great size for doing machine quilting because there is loads of room to support the quilt. It is big and heavy, the only drawback I have is when I have to move it from room to room. Right now I have my sewing studio in my living room because I live alone and I can.

I bought my Horn table with lift at a sewing store that was remodeling. I have love having the lift, extra room to the right and the extension on the back. It has four drawers also. I was given the draftsman chair, huge cutting mat, and one insert all for $1500.

I have my machine in a Gidget table and have folding tables I got at WalMart behind and to the right of it. Works for me and makes easy to rearrange if I want. I even use folding tables on either side of my Baby Lock Tiara - they wanted $200 for a dinky extension! Just had the Tiara table set up to match the height of my folding tables. Easy!

I found a sewing machine cabinet at a thrift shop for $25 and had my handy man cut an opening for my machine. It worked just fine.

I have an old sewing machine cabinet that I got off Craigslist for $25 (no sewing machine in it). It looks like it was made in the late 60's/early 70's (just the type of "fake" wood reminds me of that era). My "main" machine sits on it.
A gazillion years ago, I bought a fold-up sewing table from FingerHut. It had a section that would come up let your sewing machine "nest" inside, so you have a larger flat area all around the machine. Since it was made from sawdust, glue, and fake wood laminate, it's showing some age, so that's where my seldom-used serger sits... along with a magnetic pin catcher, my CD-player, two jellyrolls and two layer cakes.

Since I'm pretty hard on furniture, I find that buying something old from antique store, GoodWill, CraigsList, wherever, I end up getting a better quality product for far less money.
That leaves me more money for fabric (like I need more fabric! )

I have an Arrow "Olivia" table. looks a bit like furniture which is good, because it sits near the entry to our house.

For me...I do have a a koala...it is really nice....but then again, so was my dining room table when that was what I could afford....Best thing for me, is getting my machine at the right level...sitting on a table was too high for me, and ended up hurting my shoulders.....If you can find a cheaper opition..do! Relax, and enjoy your hobby....
