I use them all the time and have never noticed an odor. I have some in the old packaging and the new.

Yes they are Shout brand. They already replied to my email and said there has been no formula change. The box itself doesn't smell at all. It's only when I opened it that I could tell (otherwise I never would have bought them in the first place). So if they absorbed odor from something, it bypassed the box. I'll buy them somewhere else next time and see how that goes. I did open the 2nd box I bought and it's the same-very strong odor.

As for being safe in the dryer-I think it's always said that. It's not to use in the dryer but if you don't manage to get them out of the wash before you put it in the dryer.

My box is blue, so it could be older and they don't smell. There is a phone number for questions: 1-800-991-7468

A little update. I put one in a washload today (some new clothes that I thought might not be done bleeding color) and after, no scent. I was afraid that since I use unscented detergent that the scent would stay but it didn't. So it all came out okay-I just have to not breathe in much when I'm getting it out of the box and into the wash. I have gotten migraines from those kinds of perfumey smells before.

They do have scent in them and it's very toxic to people with chemical sensitivity.
