I'm on a budget - who isn't! I need to pair down the quilting magazines I subscribe to. What are your three favorite quilting magazines?

I'm not picky - I like variety.

To be honest, I don't like any of the current magazines. Once in awhile I will pick one up in the store if I see a quilt I want to make; that's it.

Ten or twenty years ago the magazines were much better, IMO, and worth the subscription costs. They included detailed technique articles from major teachers and original, creative quilts made by quilters who chose their own fabrics. What I find in the current magazines is that the emphasis is on selling specific fabric lines, so quilts are often on the simplistic side and use only fabrics from a specific fabric line. There seems to be less content in relationship to advertisements also.

Quilter's Newsletter Magazine was a *terrific* magazine until the quilter who started it finally sold it. It is currently put together by media specialists instead of dedicated quilters, and it really shows in the quilts they select for publication and in the lack of articles on technique.

I subscribe to several magazines but I think my favs are Quick Quilts, Quiltmaker, Fons & Porter and Easy Quilts.
I also get a few others. But I am starting to take new tact as money gets tighter. When I look at magazines in the stores there must be 3 patterns I like or it stays on the shelf. I'm finding after collecting magazines for so many years they quite often use the same patterns and then change them up by using the newest fabrics out. We gotta keep aware of what we've got and what we've seen so we can make good choices for our budget. And many of us pass our magazines around as well.

I don't subscribe to any anymore. I really haven't found one or two that just hit me. Also, the magazines that are in plastic wrap so you can't see what you're purchasing - I don't buy either. I agree with Prism, not many new techniques and actual new quilting info.

Hi There, waving from northern Indiana! :thumbup: I get Fons and Porter. I buy more books. I usually go to Amazon.com and buy the used for a lot less. Most of the time I pay around 99 cents to 3 bucks. And most are rather new! They have either been taken off the shelf and not sold or very gently used.

I actually like the older ones best too. Though they are hard to find. I just got lucky and bought a few from the classifieds here though.
My favorite was Traditional Quiling, but it isnt made any more. I usually read Mc Calls, because its at our library, and it is really good!
Check rummage sales and thrift stores...if you can find them, they are about .50!!!!

I agree with you totally, if I find the old magazines I snatch them up! They were much more traditional to which is what I love. Everyone has diffrent taste, it just that is my opinion!
