I have a large box I inherited from my mother full of fabric scraps she saved from the clothes she & I made for me in the 70's. I see lots & lots of colors and a large variety of prints, but sure don't see any large sunflowers like your block. PM me if you want some pics of the fabrics. I'm telling you, these are genuine 70's fabrics! Now if only I could figure out how to use all of them in one quilt!

Those are good colors to go with this not sure how 70's it is but the colors are spot on, this is just my take on what I would consider doing.


Block in block ( frame ) some of the large- med prints with the more solid ones, can also be rectagular,
*large - med prints meaning in pict bottom right, middle, and top right. for the centers.
*outer frame, olive green top right, yellow bottom right,middle top green, almost solid yellow right middle.


Clear as mud lol, I can see it just don't know if written it made any since, Good Luck , yes want to see what was done :)

1976 was the Bicentennial -- something patriotic?
That was also the biggest growth / renewal in interest in the traditional art of patchwork quilts, so how about a sampler row? Samplers were extremely popular in mid-70's -- you could choose several simple blocks the size of your part of the quilt, and alternate them.

Yes!
The FQ's she sent would work fine in a sampler row, and I like the peace sign suggestion as one of the sampler blocks!
(To make a peace sign pattern draw a circle the size of your block. Draw a vertical line down the center. Draw the two legs either side of the center line so they meet at the circle center and form a right angle with each other. With these lines as the centers, widen the lines to fit the scale of the block.)

Somehow catch her attention for about 10 minutes and show her some samples. Have a lap top readily available so you can go online to get samples. She herself may have absolutely NO idea of what she wants, and it's possible that when she sees what you came up with that won't be what she thought she wanted in the first place.

Get her pinned down on ideas, colors and, if possible, patterns.

I have some too---wild orange patterned with brown and white swirls and dots, I think! Also, some daisies--you guys forgot the daisies!

Don't forget the Beatles,Twiggy and the psychedelic movement. Last week was John Lennon 's anniversary of his death, try to find pictures of his partnership with the Beatles. The 70's were also the return to the land, urban people would go back to the country to grow their own food, vegetarian and macrobiotics cooking. Watergate and Nixon years. The Bicentennial of your country.A little research at your public Library should give you lots of inspiration.
