I have all my squares cut, and I am going to have a lot of extras, so I am going to make up some cute stuffed animals with my extras for show and tell -- maybe next weekend since it's a 3 day weekender.
MizMelly, here's how I do it: I buy the larger birthday cards at the dollar store and then stack my candies in 6 little stacks... two columns of three... inside the card. That's about 8 candies per stack, with two extras on top. They should fit into the card without having to overlap the stacks. Once I close the card and slide it into the envelope, I can press it pretty flat with my hand. Then it can go for first class letter postage, which I think is still $.71?

    Easy, peasy...

Can't wait to see your animals when you get them made.

This system works perfectly for me too. And yes, the price remains $.71 for two ounces. (Forty-nine cents for the first ounce and twenty-two for the second ounce.)

Thank you! I have cards that are a bit smaller, but I was going to use 6 X 9 envelopes. I need to do a 'test' mailing just to make sure I have it right.

I would strongly suggest going to the PO for the first couple just to make sure you are putting on the correct postage. I usually go to the PO a couple times during the swap just to confirm I am still using the correct amount of postage.

I go to the post office every time and have them weighed and told the postage amount. No matter what I do, they seem to be all different...from >72 cents to $1.21 and they have the same fabric in them

jaba, I mail mine in the same envelop with the same contents & sometimes it costs a dime more, ?????, so I always go to the PO to mail & get that receipt. One time it certainly came in handy!

I just pinned a few more scrappy quilt ideas that I saw on Pinterest. These are pretty simple but they look so great in our candy squares!
This one has 16-patches made of candy- https://www.pinterest.com/pin/572379433871902712/
This one looks like a super-fat Irish Chain! https://www.pinterest.com/pin/572379433871902681/
    More 16-patches- https://www.pinterest.com/pin/572379433871902669/
    Darks and lights seperated- https://www.pinterest.com/pin/572379433871902662/

Great ideas on the shipping. I know that I usually will go to the post office and get mine weighed. I have had 3-4 weigh the 71 cent and then a fourth will weigh more???? don't know what happens.

I have taken a few months at a time to the post office and they weigh them, I will buy the stamp and stamp them then just wait for their birthday to pop them in the mail.

    Barb

I do wrap the squares in plastic...hate for any of them to get wet or ruined in the mail.
