I went to the Post Office to mail the candies this afternoon and when they said $3.56. I said, no way, I will take the packages home and reorganize those little squares and try again. I know that last month is was under a dollar. Inflation is crazy but that was too much. (I tried a different method of packaging this time. Nope! Back to my original.)

Aborninig, I live down the road a piece from Barbara and we are almost snow free. All that is left is the ugly dirty piles in the corners of parking lots. It has been upper 50's here for two days in a row, so Barbara should have had some good moving days. Yeah!

WMUTech you are not alone. When I mailed my March birthday I was able to mail it for $.70. Then I did the two Aprils and it cost me $2.45. I asked the lady why so much. She said it has to do with the thickness of the envelopes. I told her I just mail one off month prior and it only cost $.70. She said if the cards themselves and the envelopes that comes with them could make the difference in prices. When I got home I checked all my cards and envelopes from the Dollar Tree and found they are different thickness. Lesson learned.

The Post office has a template with a "slot" in it. The PO clerk "drops" your letter through the slot as a test. (the test is it must be thinner than 1/4") If it drops through easily, and doesn't get hung or stuck, you pass and your charge is $0.71. Here is a picture of the template.

It is made of hard plastics so it stays stable as you drop your letter through. You can ask your post office how to get one of these templates. The other "machinable" characteristic you have to have is flexibility. So don't put a rigid piece of cardboard in your letter, like we use to do to send photos!
