2024 Birthday Candy Swap (2.5" Squares)
#883
Happy belated birthday, Hav! Sorry I missed saying so on the actual day! Glad you enjoyed your cards and candy and got all of them.
Yesterday we had a "Christmas in July" show and tell at our guild meeting. So much fun to see everyone's Christmas quilts and also a sobering reminder that we are halfway to the real Christmas.

Terriamn, This has happened to me in the past. Two hints - 1. If you have time, squish your package under a heavy book or something for 24 hours or 2. try another post office. I have two in my city that are on normal driving routes. Sometimes the postal work will just eyeball the package and tell me I need to send it for something like $5. Nope. Not happening. I will then take it to the other post office and the worker will eyeball it and "zippitty do dah" away it goes for the normal postage. You can always ask the worker to test the package by putting it through the little slot device they have at their finger tips.
I do not double stamp my packages using two Forever stamps unless I have to. I use the current forever stamp and an additional stamp for an extra ounce which doesn't cost as much as a second "forever" stamp. A penny here a penny there.

Yeah, the one time I took my candy envelope to the counter and had it weighed, they charged me about 5 dollars. When I weighed it on the scale outside myself, I was charged about $1.85.
Lately, I’ve been placing two one-dollar stamps on my envelopes and dropping them in the slot inside the PO. So far, so good, but isn’t there a postage increase coming? If so, yikes, might have to go weigh my “typical packet” again.

At the beginning of the swap year I buy the appropriate number of two-ounce stamps. My envelopes are always less than two ounces. As of July 14, 2024, a two-ounce stamp costs $1.01.
I've never had any problem with the thickness of my envelopes. I either mail the candies in my mailbox or drop it off at the nearest USPS collection box. I've never spoken with a USPS clerk about them.
I've only had one slow delivery in all the years I have been swapping, and that was this year.
