Hello all, it is way past 2.5 day, but here is the checkerboard chain flimsy basically done! It needs a small (1") pink border then will get a multi-colored binding. I finally got moved and have a bigger sewing space set up. Basically, our new living room is entirely mine one side to sew, the other side to sit on the couch and rip out my mistakes.

Oh your quilt is beautiful, so bright and cheery! You made me laugh with your comment about a place to sew and a second place to rip out. So happy for you to have a new "home" that allows you space to not just abide but to follow your sewing passion. Three cheers for you.

Reba, there's a cute block pattern for tiny baskets at Sprucecrafts. You could use half your candy square for the basket, and the other half for the feet.

They have bigger basket patterns too. Maybe you could adapt something?

Candy Binding
This is the first opportunity that I have had to use any candy squares this year. I made this quilt to enter into the State Fair of Virginia Quilt Show this Fall in the Doll Quilt category. The bear pattern is by "It'sSewEmma" in the Fat Quarter Baby book published by Fat Quarter Shop.
The maximum allowed dimension on any side is 25 inches. After making the bear, there wasn't enough room left over to add an interesting border. I solved that problem by making my binding out of candy squares. I've never seen a binding made out of so many different little fabrics before. There was a lot of head scratching and experimenting, but I did it! I'm so proud of myself.
I quilted it using Amanda Murphy's Baptist Fan templates. I've also included a picture of the back that shows the quilting and the candy border better.
