Cactus Stitchin...I have to wonder if you're making something with selvages??? Either way, pretty colors...what I can see of them. Ha ha! I love making things from selvages so cut mine with 1 1/2" of fabric to give me colors to work with. Here'a a bag I made out of them a couple of years ago.

I'm just a lurker this month..
Love those mug rugs Sewbizgirl made!
That sneak peek from Cactus Stitchin has me really excited to see the finished mr.
Rwquilts,
Did you get my pm with my address so that awesome selvage purse makes it to me??!!
What? It's not for moi??!! Ahh shucks..can't blame a Kif for cryin, whinin, tryin...to get that purse. Lol..
Psychomomquilter,
We ALL started somewhere. As for myself, I'm not perfect, and no matter how much I try, I never will be. I do try to take extra care with what I swap. Ok, I admit it, I will take out stitches and or start over if something doesn't "pass my muster". My hubby has teased that he thinks I almost prefer taking out my work. Well, he's wrong. But I do like to like what I make. I do it to please me. Because when it's all said and done, I can only please myself, eh??!! For me that mainly means trying to have my stitches be even..as in not veering completely off the quilt. Pressing my top and backing prior to putting it together, and pressing it when it's sandwiched with my batting in the middle. I think a lot of stuff can be "make it or break it" depending on a nice pressing and secure basting.
I generally spray baste, use ONLY 505 Basting Spray. It's the only one I know for sure does not gum up my machine, and it also does not get my Lupus flaring. My opinion only on it...but I love the 505 spray!
Making sure my stitching is secure at start and stop points, I generally bury all the knots by hand. I certainly don't expect anyone else to do any of what I do. As I said, I do it for me.
On binding, I generally do the easy fold over binding. If I stitch it down by machine, that's where I have to be extra careful the stitches are even and don't veer back and forth and off the edge and back, etc...
Last, I make sure there are no loose threads hanging, and I give my project another pressing, and I try to carefully fold it to try and decrease the wrinkles that I know it's probably going to get in transit.
Here's a link to #1 of 4 wonderful videos about quilting that includes basting with 505 Spray. I've watched lots of videos, read lots of books. This set of videos really is one of the best I've seen...for beginners to experts.:

My last sentences didn't make it:
I am always googling, reading, watching tutorials and videos trying to improve. I welcome input and help. As my sweet dad used to say, "Common courtesy". If something is said with kindness and common courtesy, it makes a huge difference.
Regards,
Kif
