What method did you find via the machine...I've tried and always seems to be crooked on the other side or not match up...
This is the method I use:
    http://tlcstitches.blogspot.com/2010...-tutorial.html

The binding is stitched to the back of the quilt, folded over to the front, & between being wider than what is on the back, & stitching along the flange part, the stitching is hidden on the front while nice & neat on the back.

The DQ I made for June shows the flange binding. I used STID on the green up against the red. A tip: I use my zipper foot for STID so I can keep the needle guided right where I need it.

I am in the same boat as QuiltnCowgirl - my hand sewing is horrible!
I love the method she posted a link to and have used it - wonderful!

I'm definitely trying that binding method too! Don't be afraid of binding. It takes practice, but find a method/tutorial you can refer to (detailed pictures help me) and it gets easier each time. These doll quilts are perfect for practice.

As for the DQ.....I have made two so far, and have asked the family which one I should send to my partner.......I sure hope she likes it. I think I read on here somewhere that DQs are basically a full size pattern, only shrunk Down? Hmmmmmm, hope I did this right. I sure don't want my first swap to be a disaster, where other swappers cringe when they get me next time around..... I worry about every little thing, and am almost scared to mail this off, lol. I'll stick a note in with it, to let her know that I will try again, if she doesn't like it, or I did it wrong. Can't wait for pics to start showing up!
Irene, rest assured this group is very accepting and appreciative of the effort their partners put into their doll quilts. As Chele frequently says, the goal is to have fun!

Doll quilts stretch me in just the right way to try something that maybe I have avoided. Come to think of it, bindings are something i finally delved into and conquered. Have fun and enjoy the ride.
    :-D
Irene, I guarantee your partner will love it. If you make it, and you had even a little fun in the process then it will be great great great. I'm an average sewer, so I guess I hope you will like the one I'm making for you...chuckle chuckle. Linny

Speedy Dotty sent me my August DQ right away! Isn't she too cute? What an inventive way to use food and flower fabric -- all layered and stitched together. And the little basket -- way cute -- looks just like one of my Longabergers.

Thanks, Dotty! As I said, I can't get to your DQ very soon, but I will!

Here she is -- gathering stuff from her garden with her basket
