    there are some batiks on white that are a very pastel color

    I have several cream/white and cream/yellow/gold batiks, but have never seen any bright whites. Myself, I would probably choose a marbled or mottled off white before I used just white fabric.

    I'm using a cream/white in my block, and its light enough that it almost looks white. i found it at Hancock fabrics.
