Pam, Whether you get a dog or cat, please get it from a local shelter. I rescued my dog a few years ago. She was the "Blue Light" special and ready to be put down. No one wanted her and she was only 1 year old. A beautiful Redbone Coonhound. So for $35, I took her home. She stays in the house 9-10 hours a day, while I'm at work and not a single problem. She's the best companion ever.

mytwopals - i agree whole heartedly! i didn't get my cat from the pound but nevertheless i saved her life, somebody dumped her and she was homeless and starving and showed up on my front porch, my heart went out to her, i fed her and the rest is history. i took her to the vet, she was pretty badly malnourished but she bounced back. i just don't understand how people can do things like that and a lot even worse.
