I've been known to turn blocks that are too small "on point", add corners to them, then cut them down to 12-1/2". This won't work with some patterns, of course, because the design gets lost or you lose the corners, but quite often it can make an otherwise unusable block work.

I had a few blocks in a different swap (not on QB) that were a bit too small, but by turning them and adding corners, I was able to use them. For example, there are 3 blocks in this quilt I turned "on point" (#3, #5, and #10):

    Moonrise -

Do you have any objection to applique for your quilt block? I have an idea but want to check with you first.

This is my 10th swap on here and I think that's a great idea Moon!! Never thought of that. I usually just try to make the blocks work that are a tad too small, have put a border on a couple but for the most part the blocks are workable. However there was a time I got a block that was NOT in anyway usable (not a boom swap)..I had to throw it away. That's why I try to stick to this swap...great group of people who really try to make the blocks perfect...Ive learned so much from ALL of the swappers and its definitely made me a better block maker!! The hints always help!!

What a great tip, Moonrise! That had never occurred to me. I have quite a few blocks that I'm going to try this on. You get the prize for the best tip! That stack of orphan swap blocks are just smiling, waiting to be used finally.

terriam - love the block. Amazing how some very neutral fabric can turn into such beautiful blocks! Everyone is doing great.
