Here's lucky_alf2's .... I really like how the purple and gray made the butterfly print pop.

Our nephew is getting married, they are in their early 30's and have been living in their home for several years (and apts before that). So they don't actually "need" anything for the home. I am planning on making them a sofa throw instead of a bed quilt, since they have matching bedding. She is a minimalist that he calls "Captian OCD" he is a HUGE, I mean HUGE Boston Celtic fan. (she got him birthday tickets to the game and spent 1500 each for seats he could reach out and touch the players from) That is in addition to flying to Boston, a once in a lifetime type gift. The house colors are basically dark blue and beige. I found an awesome BC fleece fabric I am going to use as the backing fabric. My original thought was to draw their monogram in celtic knot lettering and quilt around that on plain blue fabric then do some light piecing as borders medallion style. I tried the stitching on practice fabric, and well my stitching isn't there for such precise focal point and for someone called "Captian OCD" So now I'm thinking about a curved log cabin over sized blocks (16 inch) done in the two colors (dark blue and beige) and laid out to look like a 4 petal flower (typical rounded petals) or a 4 petal dogwood type flower. One big oversized flower should speak to the most modern, minimalist. The back side soft and cushy full on BC. Now I need to go stash shopping and see what I have in blue and beige.

Kass - check out the celtic knot paper pieced patterns - there are quite a few really nice ones - and ones you could enlarge to make a one block wonder!!

If I do the fat / thin log cabin, it won't be hard at all, and given the time constraints that may be the way to go. A big dogwood flower for her and sports team for him.
