So get this...I didn't GO outside!! The little $&@$rs probably came in on my dogs down at our cabin. I took three showers in less than 36 hours, scrubbed head to toe "just in case" and I mean SCRUBBED and yet I have bites. Dh and my 86 yo mother were there too. The dogs sat beside them and they played with them. Me, no I avoided the dogs, again "just in case" they had chiggers on them. Just who got chiggers and who didn't? Neither DH or mom got chiggers. Go figure.
And the the reason they're not bad in Mississippi right now is because they're all lurking around my cabin!!!

Yup... chigger/redbug expert here too. I live in the woods in Mississippi! They burrow into the skin and those tight undie and bra bands give them a head start on getting down in your skin...
They aren't bad here this year, for some reason. Usually you can't go outside without picking up some. And FORGET sitting on the ground for any reason.
The joys of summertime....

Well, I guess I'll just hold down a car somewhere between the engine and the caboose. LOL We're laughing, but it ain't funny folks! And, yeah, they do seem to prefer some people over others. Those little critters are no fun when you wake up scratching until you bleed! One of the major joys of the South in summer.
