    I looked up about broadcloth since I wasn't to familiar. After reading about it I wouldn't mind it being used in my blocks at all. In the day (medievel times it was mostly wool, but today mostly cotton or cotton blends) it is pre laundered and agitated in the manufacture process to so the fibers shrink and "bind" or interlock better together to form a smoother "feel" to the fabric and less fraying and less shrinkage also better wear. It also ends up being a little stiffer sounded like the way a batik is.

    The only broadcloth Ive used is solid colors. They are cheaper at Hobby Lobby and maybe a tad thinner feeling than 100% real cotton but I like the choices they have in colors, about any color you could want...The only place Ive purchased it is Hobby Lobby..Im sure other places have different levels of broadcloth...I wouldnt mind it being used in my quilts...Didnt know you could get it in patterns!!

    I suppose it's not a problem as long as the fabric weights are similar. I say go for it.

    [QUOTE=Janice McC;
    ...As for the broadcloth, well, that might be a first in the booms, but i'm not certain i'd necessarily notice the difference unless the weave was very tight or heavy as some quilting cottons are fairly heavy. If you wish to send it, it shouldn't be a problem but i would not think it a good idea to any on the blocks you make for others. There may be a substantial difference in the weight of the broadcloth and the F8s you receive. [/QUOTE]

    I should have mentioned I'll take up to 20 in a group. We're getting close on the three month. And MonaG has signed on for the two month group. Should we get enough people interested, I'm not opposed to opening a third group if it's the will of you boomers!

    The "broadcloth" at my Hobby Lobby is NOT 100% cotton, but rather a blend 65% poly/35% cotton. It's the same stuff as on their website:

    http://www.hobbylobby.com/Fabric-Sew...Fabric/p/45284

    I thought the boom was 100% cotton, correct? If not, please let me know. Thanks!

    Yes all fabrics need to be 100% cotton. I am almost positive that the etsy seller used the term broadcloth incorrectly. I looked up her fabric and the designer and all the fabrics in that line all of the are listed as 100% cotton and none of them said broadcloth.

    I also looked up broadcloth images none of them have the kind of colors or designs this fabric has they are all solids. And just as a note not all broadcloth is cotton-poly blend Jo-anns sells 100% cotton broadcloth as does fabric.com, and they are all solids.

    I went to Quilt in a Day LQS and bought some Day of the Dead fabric by the same designer. I decided I wanted to be able to feel the fabric before I bought it. It's really fun fabric.

    Before we freak out about broadcloth, let's remember it is the fabric she wants to SEND, for her own quilt... not use in our blocks. It should be fine! I'd love to get a shot at designing a block for that funny fabric. All the skeletons are smiling! They must be very happy to be dead.
