Nice new blocks, annt59, Bibliostone and terriamn.

****

To those of you who haven't shipped yet, please MEASURE the blocks you've already made. There were quite a few off-sized blocks in the summer group, a couple by up to an inch short in both directions, so that means either they weren't measured or they were measured and the issue was ignored. Please don't send out blocks that are off-sized. Please correct it. Also, still having people send blocks with 7 or 8 stitches per inch and minuscule seams. Please don't just sew, sew, sew without turning your block over to see what is happening and without measuring.

This host thanks you!

I'm still so happy to see new blocks appear! Great blocks, Annt and B'stone!

Janice, I'm sorry there were so many problems with the Summer blocks. The size issue is really a problem when trying to put the quilt together. And big stitches, miniscule seams, do not make a long-lasting quilt... more like one that will come apart in the wash. Yikes.

One thing this swap will do is teach us to sew better!

Not SO many problems just enough to catch my eye. Honestly, measuring as one goes would solve the vast majority of the problems. Personally, I MUST measure. If I don't, my blocks have a tendency to go wrong. My pieces are cut just right but my seams suffer a bit so I must measure and occasionally rip and resew. And some blocks, like HSTs, I always make ever so slightly oversized, sew a 1/4 inch seam and the cut down to the needed size. It's what I must do to get a reasonable degree of accuracy. I probably always will and I'm ok with that. Everyone has their own techniques they use. And improving skills, while not the goal of this swap, IS a real benefit. Who doesn't want to do their best when giving something to another quilter? Who doesn't wish to improve when possible?

For the the purposes of full disclosure, I've just gotten an email from one member who said ALL of the blocks she received were 12 1/2 inches. I cannot tell you how thrilled that makes me. One person has had to resew/adjust two blocks, as will a second person, due to size issues. It's kind of the luck of the draw.

Oh, one person received SIX blocks that had no name on them. As most of the blocks are in the gallery, it's not too big a deal but some aren't so let the owner know who made your blocks. Autumn group, please make sure the owner's name and YOUR name is on each and every packet you send me. Thanks!
