Boom 19 - Autumn

I havent picked out the fabric for one group yet. Only had enough of the blue/floral for one group. Kass, I love this block. Ive made the full Carpenter star that fit my queen bed by itself..then the smaller ones I use for these swaps and also the 12" ones. I really enjoyed making the purple blocks to go around the center..some I had never made before, nor will I again.. Question for you QAYG people..Do you use a walking foot or just your regular foot? Ive got the zebra blocks quilted but not sashed yet. I liked the regular foot better..

I have a blue and brown plaid I was thinking about, but I made a couple of blocks w/ it and it is way too ill behaved to send, even w/ a lot of sizing it is not easy to keep straight, it has a good hand and weight to it, doesn't look like a loose weave, but it sure acts like one.

I have been using my walking foot for straight or curved line quilting. Maybe I'll try it without next time, since so many of you are saying you like your results better without the walking foot. I have a hopping foot (a little hoop on a spring) that I use for FMQ.
I'm sending a blue floral, too... It looks like dandelions, gone to seed. I have a gorgeous rust paisley that I might send for the other fabric.

Oh I also meant to say my issues w/o the walking foot was when I was joining the entire column so the entire length of the quilt. There may not be as big of issues working on the individual block w/o the walking foot.

Question about batting. I've always used the warm and natural type battings and they quilt beautifully but am thinking about wool for my next project. It's 72x72 with over 800 2.5 inch (2 in finished) squares and some sashings and a border. My plan is to quilt through the center of every darn square so that would be 2 inches apart. Have any of you used wool? How do you find it to quilt with? Is it heavier than the w/n batting? How does the quilt hold up to washing? Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
