Boom 20 - Quail 3 month group
#511
I’m heading to Amazon now!! Thanks Sewbiz, I definitely need the 2 -3 piece fabrics. Also, I like the idea of having them all in a grab and go book. I pin several on pinterest and other sites, (I have found several on Delaware Quilts), but then I’m trying to print out instructions and some on pinterest do not even have instructions. I’ll be checking out the Around the Block books. Thanks.

There is a book "1000 Great Quilt Blocks" that I found second hand and i think the measurements are off in that book. It is all piecing. It has measurements that are off by 1/4". I do like most of the block patterns in it, but I have to do the quilter's math to be sure they are right. They also show different sizes of blocks.

Thanks everyone. The around the block arrives next Friday. I’ll definitely consider the newer 1000 block book. Your sage advice has been helpful.
I usually design my own appliqués. How hard is it to design paper pieced blocks.

You wouldn’t catch me trying to design a paper pieced block but it he person to ask would be Kassandra
QM when i’m Making a block from a site that i’m Not sure of the directions on I look at what they are telling me to do. Then check it with my tried and true patterns such as a HST or flying geese. I have had problems with a couple of Delaware Quilts blocks. Now I always double check b4 cutting

Just returned from dropping dog off at the Hound Dog Inn while we are gone. She loves that place and comes home exhausted.
After that picked up some fabric, more coc, charcoal, pale pink and a darker pink as well as several more grays.
They will be hanging on the line waiting to be ironed. Do have to finish up 6 more blocks from another swap first.

Mjp, sounds like you have already received a lot of good information, but I'll add my thoughts as well. I got the book right before the last boom and absolutely love it. Almost all my boom blocks were from the book. I think it is perfect for stuff like this. I didn't have any problem with the directions or printing things from the included CD. I think it is worth the cost. I got mine at Joann's using a 50% coupon.

As long as you understand the concept AND practice of paper piecing ( piecing orders mostly) I find it pretty easy to make the patterns. You need to be mindful of where you need seam allowance and that the point matching needs to be at the stitch line not at the paper edge. And that it will be reverse of your drawing, if the pattern is geometric and same on both sides it won't matter, but could if making a pattern that is a picture. I would strongly suggest starting w/ geometric pattern making before moving on the picture pattern making.
