Testing with scrap fabric is a good idea even when you aren't stretching a lot. I started a new BOM a few years ago with pieces that were nothing unusual, but there were lots of them. I started with scraps because the kit didn't have an inch extra.

I pieced and pressed for hours, but couldn't get the 1st block to lay flat. As a desperate last resort, I ripped out 4 triangles that were puffing up too much, recut them with a different side on grain, and the block flattened out easily. I had followed the directions exactly, but didn't know until later that the designer hadn't tested the pattern before selling. They only told the LQS after a bigger problem showed up later.

Oh dear, I just wrote a book! My point is that even professional designers make mistakes.

I always (well usually) consider the cost/benefit side.

Since we are all waiting for fabric or preparing ours for shipment, I thought I would share a few sources of blocks I have been looking at to pass the time.

    https://www.patchworksquare.com/inde...age=1&link1=46

    https://www.favequilts.com/?task=sea...rm=12%22+block

    http://www.freshlemonsquilts.com/qui.../quilt-alongs/

    http://www.quilterscache.com/BlocksbySizeC.html

Anyone have a favorite website for blocks that they would like to share?

Klaws I'm not real sure and not home to measure it but I'm thinking when finished its 24 x 24? I had made 5-6 in various colors and was going to make one quilt with them but decided to use 4 of them as center pieces in quilts. I really like the Carpenter Star block, even the 12" one.
Maude, I buy the 100 blocks magazine each time it comes out. they have a LOT of patterns in each magazine and I know I don't use but 3-4 out of each but love looking at the new patterns each time. With Quilters Cache their patterns are not always finished 12 1/2" blocks but they have about any pattern you could imagine!

Thanks Joan. If it is 24x24 then I assume you used 3 1/2" blocks. I want to eventually make one for the center of a quilt so the 24x24 would be perfect.
