I always enjoy seeing your work, and love your take on the traditional. Rather than Dr. Who, we lean more towards Star Trek and Star Wars.
Queen, more great blocks, I saw the others on Early Birds. Where at in Nebraska? Have a brother in law in Ames.
Libstser, guess with the new in law to be means you'll start working on a wedding quilt!
Pam, I encouraged my step-mom to get the Accuquilt due to her arthritis, but I go help her with other cutting from time to time.
terriamn, Love your fabric! I tend to go with brights myself but have a weakness for pastels too. Depending on your requests, I think I have some great blenders for your block!
juliasb, or should I say "lean mean quilting machine" LOL! While my health issues aren't as severe as yours, you have a great attitude and its inspirational to me. I also agree that "fun" is much more important than perfect.
As for me; I've been sewing of and on since high school but was exposed to quilting by my Grandmother and Great Aunt. DGM taught me how to hand quilt, I'm not very good at it but find it relaxing, still haven't had time for it since we moved a few years ago. (still have a quilt on a frame) It's been over the last 10 years or so that I've really picked up more interest and working on improving my skills. What I need to start working on is machine quilting to try and get some of my UFO's out of the bin!
I've been married for 31 years and have 1 son (16 and he just got his learner's permit.
Eek!!) I work full time as an accountant, so that' one of my excuses for not getting my UFO's done. 
I can't say he's interested but Hubster is tolerant of my fabric obsession, usually I just get a raised eyebrow when I bring something new home. I am so lucky to live in a amazing area that has many different quilt shops to feed that obsession, and the next town over (Shipshewana, IN) has a large quilt festival every year in June. I belong to a small guild and go to a paper piecing club once a month. Outside of that we tend to be homebodies and live a pretty quiet (dull?) life.

SusiSews, how darn lucky to live by Shipsewana. I was there last year for a retreat. Think we have been to Shipsey 4 times. They have the best peach pie in the whole world. Does that mean you eat noodles with almost every meal?
I have requested to keep the block looking pastel so no brown that is in the tree trunks, minimal white for the background if you need it. Other then that choose any of the colors in the fabric except the green, that will be my lattice

Hi Night Owls,
I just sent off my F8s and am excited to get started. I've really enjoyed reading all of the bios. Welcome to the newcomers. I was new for Boom 22 and, while nervous, really enjoyed it and learned a ton! It is funny, when ever I google a quilting question, often the response is a comment from somewhere in the quilting board. This is an amazing collection of talent!
I live in Oregon and PamOry (also in this boom), is my daughter. She was the one that introduced me to quilting, the board, and the Boom! I recently retired and was really interested in all of the beautiful quilts Pam was making so wanted to give it a try.
She has gone to great lengths to help me get started. She helped me buy my sewing machine, took me on my first "Shop Hop" helped me through my first few blocks and introduced me to this group and coached me through my first boom. We are heading east tomorrow for a family reunion. While we are back east, we will be attending a quilting retreat at Missouri Star Quilting Company! So exciting!!
My mother was quite a seamstress which is were I got my first experiences sewing. Funny, what I remember most was ripping out those seams and doing them again! My mother was good and she was picky!! She made the wedding dresses for myself and both my sisters!
In my younger years, I sewed some clothing for myself and my children and even made some pretty funky Halloween costumes. I hadn't sewn in over 20 years when I picked up the quilting about a year ago. I am really enjoying piecing though I do find it challenging. Still working on that "scant" quarter inch! I have done some paper piecing and find I really enjoy it and hope to grow in that area. Another area I aspire to learn is the actual long arm quilting. I was fortunate enough to be able to remodel and dedicate part of my house to a sewing room. There is a space on one wall where a brochure for a long arm and a dream reside!

Kass you might remember my fabric from me posting it last boom when I bought it. There are actually lots of colors to choose from and I Think some green accents will be great just don’t want to much of the green Or it will fade into the lattice. I am not good at picking a great contrasting color like you, Jaba and Sewbiz

Good morning, all. Quick fyi that I've already received one set of F8s and one third more of the f8s packages are in the mail and half of those will arrive today. Woo hoo! DH has a biz dinner tonight so I think I'll be playing with your fabrics!

I learned how to sew in junior high. I’ve been sewing on and off since. 30 years ago I started a baby quilt which eventually turned into a king sized quilt when I didn’t get it done in time for the baby. I took an adult class on sewing. The instructor helped me as did some in the class who helped me finish basting it. The quilt police took me aside and told me obliquely the instructor wasn’t a quilter so I should learn from someone else. But I thought she was fine. I made an around the world quilt and she was a master sewer with lots of teaching experience. I used a walking foot and quilted the giant quilt after the class on my little singer sewing machine. My almost 3 year old daughter helped me push parts of the quilt through the machine. I wish I had a picture of that. I still use that quilt when we van camp, although it’s falling apart.
That daughter is now 31 living in Omaha, my 27 year old son lives in Pittsburg, and my 23 year old son lives with us in the San Diego area. They all cherish the simple quilts I made for them. My 27 year old sews with me when he’s home. I’m bringing my daughter and my two bonus grandchildren my little singer sewing machine. I’m an exercise physiologist specializing in aging and fall prevention. I hike, bike, kayak, play tennis, and teach senior aerobics, strength training, yoga and FallProof at my local Y. I have a wonderful husband who gets as excited about looking at the finished boom blocks as I do. He designs some of your blocks.
After the giant quilt I didn’t return to quilting until 15 years later. I made two around the world quilts for my oldest and youngest. I took a three or four day beginning freemotion quilting class with Cindy Needham in Northern CA. I brought my little singer but she lent me her straight stitch Juki as she thought my singer wouldn’t work for FMQ. Good thing as I had forgotten the cord. One day into the class I had purchased a used brother equivalent. I sat next to an experienced quilt instructor who was also taking the class and who had the juki too. She and I worked together and by the end of the class I was a competent free motion quilter and I knew my machine. Cindy is fantastic. I took a second workshop from her at Road to CA. I highly recommend her. Nowadays I mostly use blueprint/ Craftsy online classes. I love FMQ.
I then made the third child quilt for my middle child. He is an artist, so I was a bit intimidated. We designed it together and he helped pick out fabrics. It’s more subdued than my usual And very modern. Since then I’ve made 5 or so big quilts and lots of wall hangings and table runners.
I love bright colors. The first fabric I sent to the boom had Day of the Dead dancing skeletons on it. I joined the boom so I could become a better piecer. I try to do at least three pieced blocks. I made my first star for Libster. I recently did two N.Y. beauty blocks so with the booms help I feel like I’ve become an advanced beginner. If you look at the gallery you can pick out most of my blocks because they don’t look like the others. I do a lot of raw edge appliqué.
I love getting to know all my boom sisters and have even met some of them in person! Janice is my quilting hero. My boom sisters have really helped me with advice on how to do things and which tools to buy.

MJP, your quilting hero??? Oh, no, this cannot be. You likely have exponentially more experience than I do, not to mention more creativity and artistic ability in your little finger than I have in my entire body. May I be your host hero instead because I am good at running swaps?
Regarding Quilt Police, it's soapbox time. In this swap I am the quilt police, as are you all! In general, I don't believe in quilt police when making things for yourself and outside of swaps. You should please yourself, do it however you wish, it should be completely up to you. But in a swap like this, size does count, 1/4 inch seams matter as do measuring, neatness, stitch length and proper thread colors. And I hope everyone follows color requests within reason. If we don't follow the "rules", essentially the things we make will not be suitable to mix with the other blocks that have been made for your fellow Boomers. I know for a fact that through the years, many blocks have hit the circular file because they weren't workable either because of construction or color choices. So I do ask that everyone do their best construction-wise, as well as follow the requests. Off soap box now.

Suzisew: I started sewing on my first treadle when I was nine. My dad bought it for $3.00 at an auction. He tuned it up and handed it over to my 2 youngest sisters and I. I still remember the first skirt I made on it. The fabric was a hot pink cotton that was $.35 a yard at the 5 and dime in our little town. Within a couple months I put the sewing machine needle through my right forefinger. Dad pulled it out with a pair of pliers. That taught me to be more careful and to slow down when sewing. I just loved those day.

Piccard is my son's favorite too. He loved to watch the series on DVD and when he was a toddler I caught him playing outside with the captain and Worf...it was adorable. We are all looking forward to the next series.
