KLue- can you post the latest taken triangles list? I can't find it and want to get moving on one to see if I'll do it for the swap. Since I can paper piece, I thought I'd try it out!!

would you mind posting here how you did your beautiful applique?

many of the people in this swap will be making the entire quilt during the DJ Cyber Block Party and i for one would love to know how you achieved such spectacular results.

This is a curiosity question. From some of the posts I've read many have used other fabric first before cutting into the "real thing" If you are going to participate in the cyber block party I was wondering if you were going to do a "dry run" with each block/triangle before you make the "real thing"?

i only plan on doing a practice run on techniques i've never done before otherwise i'm just going straight to my real fabric.

for regular piecing, paper piecing, and most applique i'm pretty comfortable, if i mess up 10-15% i'm prepared for that loss in fabric.

OK...I tried the scraps in the water and they turned blood red, but it did take a while for it to happen. So...here is what I think happened. I had washed the fabric that I bought especially for this swap and I had ironed it on my board. For some reason, when I do that I will have small areas on the ironing board that form wet circles..no matter how much I iron over them, they don't dry for quite some time. Anyway...I think I had the wet circles on the board and when I put it back in my sewing room, I tossed the completed blocks on the ironing board and yup...they landed on a circle so they sat there until the circle dried. So they were wet for quite some time and they bled.

So...long story short....I will be remaking 11 blocks with different fabric. I would be mortified if any of you got them and they ran in whatever you were making and ruined it!

I haven't done much appliquing, do you machine or hand applique? I've done a little needle turn applique but never machine. I have a book that I used to try and do machine applique but I'm not sure if it was the machine, a cheapy or a mental block on my part, but that was one of the most frustrating things I ever tried to do. I was trying the satin stitch.

okie...I found that appliquing by machine using the satin stitch is very hard also. You have to go sooo slowly to make it look right and I'm not a very patient person  It also makes a huge difference based on what type thread you are using.
