i do it all, stencil, free hand, batik, etc - i work with cotton, silk, wool.
mostly people buy my hand dyed that is used for landscape quilts. i hand dye sky, foreground, background, etc. this fabric is typically hand dyed and then free hand painting using dyes.

did i mention that starting January 2010 we're having a Dear Jane Cyber Block Party.
a large group of us will spend about 14 months making our own entire Dear Jane Quilt (no swaping of blocks). its more for support, motivation, and friendships.
we'll have a group of blocks to make each week, we'll post tutes, pics, etc.
the schedule will be 6 weeks of making blocks and then 1 week off.
after every 6 week period a list of everyone who has completed all of the assigned blocks will be entered into a hat and i'll send the winner hand dyed fabrics that i've made.
it more important to stay on track and finish then it is to be perfect so thats why the winner will be based on completion not perfection.

Thanks for the pic of the fabric with the painting. Really quite wonderful, isn't it!! I hope to get to this sooner than later!
Also, looks like I didn't sign up for a triangle yet. But I think I'll hold out. I'm overwhelmed right now and need to pull back on my committments...I want to be fresh in January...also, I've fallen in LOVE with Kaffe Fassett fabrics and his latest book, so I'm going to try a couple quilts in there too!

i could give you the cutting or paper piecing directions for the blocks you choose but i think the harder thing will be finding any simple blocks remaining.
your best hope will be in the blue/white swap since thats relatively new and not as many people joined in that swap.
if someone drops out with a simple block from the green/red swap i'll let you know right away.
