janes blocks were done at various sizes and then she added sashings around the blocks to bring the smaller ones up to size.

the book and software has everything at 4.5 finished to make things consistent for todays quilter.

you would send in blocks at 5 inches in size that way when they are sewn together the finished size is 4.5.

for the M10 block you would cut nine 2 inch squares and sew them together alternating the color.

so lets say you want to use red and cream. you would cut five 2 inch red squares and four 2 inch cream squares.

then when you sew all the squares together it should measure 5 inches square.

Is there a site where you can see the blocks a little bigger or is the book you mentioned the only place to see them? I searched but every pic I saw is still so small I can't really see how the blocks look up close.

this site has some really good close up pics of their dear jane quilt.

its very hard to find large scale pics of the original jane - the official dear jane site seems to have the best pics.

the book doesn't really have better pics of the quilt block either - the book offers a scale line drawing of the block which you could use to make templates or to make a paper piece pattern.

You can also zoom within the screen itself..... hold the ctrl key down and use the little wheel on your mouse to scroll in and out.
The resolution of the picture is good enough to scroll quite close and see more detail.

Thanks for answering Klue. I am thinking of joining if I find a block I like.

Thanks Blue I didn't know you could do that! That really helped. I can figure out the piecing but i needed to see them enough to see how they connect within the block.

I'm in for B3. If I can summon the courage, I'll try a more intermediate for a 2nd block, but for now will commit to one.

    This is so cool!!

Thanks for posting this site. The author of this site also redrafted several of the blocks in an attempt to more closely imitate what Jane might have had in mind.
