If you will google "coloring book pages", you will find all kinds of simple stuff for applique :D

That is one of my favorite places to get simple applique pieces :D:D:D

I make several copies and cut out the different components and one to use as a guide.

You did pick a complicated pattern on for your first pp.

It doesn't have to be that farmhouse. What does a farmhouse look like to you? Any house that is on a farm is a farmhouse to me!

Can you find a pattern for a simpler house?

Can you cut a rectangle out of paper, add a triangle for the roof, cut out some squares for the windows and then a rectangle door?

Instead of that fancy porch can you just draw a roof like that and add two pillars one at each end?
The pillars can meet the ground. Cut out a sidewalk shape.

That gives you nine pieces if I count right.
Prepare your background at 13 inches square.
Lay on your paper house pieces and see how you will like it.
If you like it, put steam a seam ii on the back of the fabric. Cut out the fabric using your paper patterns.
Press the fabric down and then sew around all the edges. After you are done trim the block to 12 /12 inches.
It could be adorable and much more doable for a beginner.

Play with paper before you waste the steam a seam and fabric.
I hope that helps a little bit.
Remember this is YOUR house so do it as you want it.
    :-D
    Edited to add:
Yes, google farmhouse coloring book and see what's there.
I've done many things that way.

here is a simple house as an example, you can take out the horse, fence, tree or trees, simplify the background, switch it up, add something...make it your own :D:D:D

I agree...google coloring pages or even just clip art images. I do that all the time. It is very easy. Don't stress yourself all out, it takes the fun out of it and this is supposed to be FUN!

I haven't been able to update the list- my keyboard died a toddler induced death, so I'm limited to what my blackberry allows me to do. I have a cute "primitive" style house pattern- applique- I could photocopy and mail to you. It would have to be reduced to fit 12", but that shouldn't be hard to do. Let me know if you would like it. :)

My sheep "centers" are done, I just have to add a border. I need to get motivated! Lol! I did the "fun" part, now I'm dragging my feet. I'm such a big baby.

Oh, I am so far behind, any room on the therapy couch?? I need a break from life for a bit, lol.

I have had the fabric to make my blocks for quite a while now and am certainly swamped (my fault) with a ton of things to do. I have more than a few projects going in my sewing room and I wasn't able to get in there too much yesterday and not at all today.

Not like you all don't have anything to do, bc I know most if not all of you are extremely busy, I just needed to let you know I haven't forgotten this swap. In fact I'm excited about it. The blocks people are making are going to make such cute quilts!
