Thanks, not sure why I could not get into the activity list today. I will hold up then. I was at quilt store and picked up some fall fabric and thought might do some more. I will focus on the fall color one then and use it for that. Don't need to add to my full schedule anyway. I am excited for these fall blocks.

Yes, we only have 12 signed up for fall.....so one of yours and 11 others! I was hoping that we would get a few more, but at least we have enough for the swap. Leaves are open design as stated, you pick how you want yours to be done. The reason we have leaves on the plates is to represent FLOWERS for this swap.

If you are absolutely positively sure your pieces were cut correctly and your seams are 1/4" I would imagine you are stretching the fabric when you press open the seams. Easy to do on bias pieces.
My hint: I sew 4 blades together, then press open all the 3 seams - do NOT use steam to press the seams, then flip it over, put the iron on the 1/4 plate and give it a quick burst of steam. Then when all sections are pressed, sew the 4 pieces together and press the last seam.

I also sometimes end up with "baggy" dresden plates that just won't iron out flat... that perplexed me, as I took such great care to cut carefully and sew/press them as exact as I could. I solved that by having to tighten up a seam or two to make them lie flat, and that worked great.
I was wondering however... I sew my blades one by one until the entire plate is put together. I have seen some tutorials in which you sew two "half plates" and then join them together, or four "quarter plates" and then join them together. Would that help prevent the baggy plate syndrome that I am somewhat plagued with? How do you all join your plates together?

This is a video trying to sell a template for a 20-blade plate. But watch it for some good tips on making the 16-blade plate we are doing.

I really want to encourage newbies to give this a try! I am by no means an experienced quilter, but I learned soooo incredibly much by participating in this swap.
It covers unique cutting, piecing, and applique methods that teach you so many of the basic skills. I know my techniques have greatly improved just by participating in these two dresden plate swaps!
My work may not be perfect, but I am proud of it. Here is the post of my fall plates:
