Fall Block Swap/So a new adventure begins.

I thought it was a cockroach until I read your next post K-Roll. LOL
Everyone has a not quite right block at times but that is just part of trying new things and getting the practice we need to do things better.
Good on you for having a go and actually I think your block looks like a cute little funky village.

K-Roll, that is a very ambitious block for a beginner. Maybe take a step to measure that each unit is the correct size.
Precise cutting, precise quarter inch is the only other advise I can give you.
It is a cute little Wonky Village. And, in a "Wonky" quilt, it is perfect!!
Don't give up. It will get easier each time. And, there is nothing wrong with Wonky at times. Sometimes. Wonky comes across as Modern as well.

Yes K-Roll your block is a great wonky block! Sometimes a mistake really isn't a mistake because you can use it in other area's, such as a wonky quilt. It would be great! My BIL always says a mistake isn't a mistake until you can't fix it! In quilting there is always some wiggle room, you just change the design. That's what's fun about these swaps. You get different sizes & you figure out there are lots of ways to make a quilt.

I can see why that would be a hard block to make, K-roll. When I design blocks, I use my pad of quilters graph paper that has 12"x12" pages, marked at 1/4" grid. I got it from Joanns a few years ago. I draw out my design on it without added seam allowence, and then add the seam allowence when I cut out my fabrics. I found this way really helps me get the accurate size I need. I hope this helps? Just think of the little engine that could..." I think I can! I think I can!"

Hi K Roll! Here is a link to a pattern at craftsy that is hillside houses. Scroll down a little to see it) It is a buck to buy, but, maybe you are interested? The thing about using a pattern someone else made up is, they have worked out all of the techniques and sizes for you. Also, I think there is a free tutorial there on making 8 half square triangles at a time. You might have to dig around to find it though.

I hope this helps you get a better result for all your hard work. I just hate it when I make something that goes awry on me. It still happens to me after all the years I have been quilting. Honest!
