You got it, Jane! For example, for that layout, you need to make 2 blocks and trade between them before you sew each block back together. Make 1 block with pink and cream (or what neutral is chosen)-- that is, 2 pink squares and 2 cream squares for the 4-patch. Then make 1 block with brown and cream--2 brown squares and 2 cream squares for the 4-patch. After making the 2 horizontal and 2 vertical cuts, between the 2 blocks trade the 4 strips and the center--put the pink strips and pink center in the brown block and put the brown strips and brown center in the pink block. The solid color should be the same for both blocks-- it wouldn't work if you made a pink print/solid pink block and tried to trade it with a brown print/solid brown block, well anyway, it would look different if you did that. :-)

It looks as if all the fabric is the same in the picture. Same two pinks and the same two browns. So if that is so, we would not trade right?

Quilt Lover Grandma, That's the way they made their quilt-- but we don't have to make ours that way too. It would look nice with a variety of prints.

QLG - yes, we will be swapping. Sets of 6 will have 3 pairs. What does everyone think about splitting up the pairs? I'm learning toward 'yes'. Let me know!

QLG - I will post pics/instructions for the variation. We mail/send our quilt blocks in sets of six. With this variation, each set of 2 blocks will make 1 pair. We will have 3 pairs (6 blocks) per set.

glasqlts - I will be swapping out the Valentines blocks 3/31 and get them back in the mail. I'm still waiting for some more packages - - -
