We'll be sending directly to our recipient (sp?), righ? No self-addressed and stamped things? (I can't figure out how to do that, given that I'm in the Netherlands and many who join swaps here are not - I doubt US postal offices will look kindly on Dutch stamps!)
The US post office will deliver your package/envelope. Your post office will weight and tell you how much postage you need, put on your local stamps, and send it on.
When we send to other countries we put on the amount based on weight, and when it gets to its destination the local post office delivers. The post offices reciprocate deliveries.
Yes, that is how it works when you send directly to the recipient. But there are a lot of swaps – like swapping quilt blocks where you send in a set and get different ones back - where everyone sends to a central person, who then shuffles things around and sends things back. They often ask you to put a self-addressed and stamped envelope inside the package so they don’t have to pay for the postage of the return package. But I have never been able to figure out how that works internationally.
