I got lucky, the stellars jay is spectacular. They are eye-catching when flying through the woods.
I have no idea yet what my center block will be. It sounds like there's a lot of applique going on. I've never tried applique and was thinking of just a block in colours I like. But now it's time to hit the pattern and pictures books. Planning is as much fun as doing :)

Wow, I have only been out for the day, and such a lot has changed on this thread. Well done, all those who jumped in the water with us, it's lovely, isn't it? I am into planning stage with my block, but as I am going to applique it, I will be taking a few weeks to get it done. Great list of maps, Klue - I have my world map panel (3ft x 5ft) on order from ebay, that I will be using as part of the backing, and when the time comes, I will use a length of ribbon to chart my quilt's progress around the world.

I've had more fun with the international concept of my quilts. All the ladies at my PO, my LQS and all my friends know the trip my quilt is taking and they are as excited as me to see pics of it each time. They all wait just as anxiously as I do to see the next one that comes it...One of my neighor's daughter came over the other day and asked to see my "around the world" quilt.

Lots of great ideas mulling around, that is so lovely to see such enthusiasm.
