the center should be 24 inches finished or less. it doesn't have to be a square though a rectangle is fine.

my centers will be around 20 x 24 inches
Please just take a moment to check again on Page 1 of this Topic, Sizes are 12" x 12" or 24" x 24"
dependant on what size quilt you want. Okay.

    Elle
this is right from the first page... please explain where i'm wrong to have made a rectangle

"The center block is the design of your choice. It may be any size between 12 inches and 24 inches finished. (Be sure to add ―” for seam allowance!) The center may be square or rectangular. The size of your center will determine the finished size of your quilt. (The center block, all borders, cornerstones, or whatever should be carefully squared each step of the project.)"

I have a half completed center but I am just not happy with it...ah, tomorrow should be a better day................
I like your avatar, what about that? Or something similar based on ...wrought iron? ...celtic designs?...some other 'ethnic' culture?
Thanks. My avatar is one of many blocks for another quilt--would hate to remake it. I "purchased" one of my kindergartener's artworks as a quilt block. It's smaller than the requirements so I'd have to add an initial border to get it to 12.5 x 12.5. It's a 6 year olds version of his "self-portrait"--would this be too personal to submit to a round robin? Opinions?
Would it stand getting it enlarged at a copy shop? Then you could have a larger quilt at the end of the day. (year, ha ha.)

Re the above, I wrote the last message, and the quotes have all been turned around. I'm sorry if it's confusing, but I don't know how it happened.

I"m following along quite nicely. I just haven't committed to anything yet...nothing "feels" right today.

Hopefully, next week, I"ll find my niche and get down to business...I started an Indy 500 quilt today--not sure why?? kids and dh think it's cool so I"ll keep at it.

You could buy a Gammil long arm and have $3000 change too. I know which one I would prefer, but that's probably because I already have the 730 - yes, I know I am very lucky. It was my retirement present to me, because the UK government took so long to start paying my my pension, I had well over half of it in one lump sum at the finish.
Funny how the Government always manages to take a long time paying pensions out. They took 1,000īs of pounds of tax off me that was wrong, I got it back eventually, but I suffered because of it at the time.
Yup, and I didn't get a penny of interest either. If I hadn't had some savings, I don't know what I would have done.

Yes, just to confirm...the center can be either rectangular or square. I thought that when you were thinking about your center this would give you more freedom to be creative and allow for quilts to be either larger or smaller depending on your initial decisions on your center. (admittedly, I twisted Elle's arm to help me out with this thing after writing the first "instructions", and she has had a little something else to occupy her mind..like Getting Married!!!)

As for mental blocks on what to do with a center you recieve....first, don't panic. Then let it speak to you. You can also ask anyone you like for input and advise. Everyone on the board can and will help you. We love to offer our opinions...can't you tell??

No you are not wrong to make a rectangle, but I was trying to point out to Chewboo that you canīt make just any size, i.e., under 12", didnīt word it very well I am afraid.

For those that are stressing over their centers, here's my finished top for the first Round Robin I did with the board.
The center is just an 18x18 block

The center up close. The first border is the white with the butterfies.
