I'd love to be part again next month! My only problem: I have to confess that St Patrick's is not something we celebrate here... All I know about it is that it has to do with green. But looking at your choices (EITHER St Patrick's OR green & white) there must be more to it. Any hints for me?

Hi ladies!! Turns out a 10 day trip turned into 3 weeks....we stayed to help my son finish a bathroom and kitchen remodel. It's not all done but just a few little things left that finish it up. After a 16 hour drive we arrived home at 9:00 p.m. on Friday night. Yesterday was unpacking and taking down the Christmas tree and decorations. Finally got through all the mail and went to the grocery store, so hopefully l can begin Jan's mug rug today. I'm more than ready to get the sewing machine humming again. It's nice to have a break but super nice to be home!!

jaba -- I've always thought the best part of a trip was the coming home part!

Monale -- The traditional colors of St. Patrick's Day are green, white & orange, the colors of the Irish flag. The green represents the Republic of Ireland, the orange represents Northern Ireland & the white represents peace. St. Patrick's Day fabrics here in this country may have celtic motifs or shamrocks or even leprechauns, or someone may choose to use just those 3 colors -- green, white & orange. (In this country, everyone is Irish on St. Patrick's Day!)

So, the other option for February is to make a mug rug in green & white. Or multiple greens & whites.

February's swap will be partner's choice, which means the person making the mug rug has to adhere to her partner's choice. So if you decide on green & white, then that's what your partner will make for you. I'm thinking there are no fabrics available to you specifically for St. Patrick's Day, but you can still use green, white & orange, correct?

Some people won't really mind either way.

I hope you find this helpful, Monale.

Thanks for the clarification! So we're making a political statement here with the added orange No problem, I should have that colour in stock! Don't think I could get any specific St Patrick's fabrics, but green/white/orange and even a shamrock shouldn't be a problem (a leprechaun is something like a gremlin, right? Not really my thing, but if my partner wants one...)

Oh, I just learned to do celtic appliqué! That should go well for St Patrick's day, right?

I love celtic appliqué myself and, yes, it would be perfect!

I live on Long Island, ny. Our Joann's has bolts and bolts of St. Pat's day fabric, also a lot of orange, green and white. leprechauns galore, and shamrocks and Celtic knots and flowers and flags.

I'm sure Joann's carries such fabric. However, I'm not in the US and there's no Joann's anywhere... (and no-one here knows about St Patrick's day anyway...)
But I'm just going to use the colours and/or some celtic appliqué! Looking forward to it already!

I have mine finished but I also have a mini quilt to do. I like to take only one trip to the PO. So I will probably be mailing them both in about a week.
