Marion, Your tangerine batiks really pop against the black fabric! Skaduzy, I meant to comment on your tree quilt. It would really look good in my house... Ube, red is my favorite color and I love polka-dots, so I was especially drawn to Lynnie's quilt. It is so totally my taste. My finished quilt top is posted under the picture section, btw. I was supposed to be leaving for Florida, but because of hurricane Matthew, we're rescheduling our flight.

I used to have a lot of trouble with HSTs. I watched a lot of videos on u- tube that were designed for making multiples of the same fabrics. The best one IMHO is Sharon Shamber. I think the trick is starch, starch and more starch. I like to watch her work her magic on fabric.
I haven't looked at Bonnie Hunters Quiltville to see if she has any tips. She has probably made a few million HSTs
The problem arises when making scrappy quilts. Each HST is different and the only way it works is to make the HST bigger than you want and trim them down. Since I found the Bloc- Loc ruler I rarely have lost points or odd sizes any more.
One other thing I do is not waste time trying to make an odd HST fit into the project, I set them aside and trim them down to use in mini quilts. Life is to short to struggle with a HST. I am in HST bliss.
Stay safe through Hurricane Michael.

My favorite is the Magic 8 for HSTs - and they are so easy once you calculate the square size (finished size of the HST x 2 plus 1.75"). I am starting several Hunter's Star tops and each small block needs 8 HSTs. The long end is sewn so no stretching on the bias. The HSTs I made were perfect and no trimming down.

I also use this method. There is the one method where you sew around the edge of the squares and cut diagonally but you end up with open bias edges. No bias with sewmomasews' method. Take a look, is that what you call the magic 8?

I love finding new ways to try "cause sometimes different methods work for various needs.
