The block is 12". The backing is turned under to create a border around the block and serves to attach one block to the next. Here is a video so it makes more sense ... we're not using their tool, but the technique is the same

Nise and Sewbeadit, what cheerful patriotics! Great work!
Ran into a snag with mine ... but moving along anyway. Will have it done and out the door soon!

Wow, Krystyna, Thank you for sharing that video. It makes it sooooo simple to understand. My mom volunteered to make a couple of blocks with me for the "patriotic quilt" as you go. We will have those out to you early next week. We are going to work on those today.

Great video!! It was different than what I had in mind, so I am glad I saw it. I will try to get you a couple of blocks out ASAP, gonna get ready for a garage sale this weekend so I can have it next weekend. Gonna move my machine outside, weather permitting, and sew, sew, sew, between customers!!
Cuppy received the DQ I mailed to her, she likes it. I am gonna wait til first of the week, and if she hasn't posted a picture, I will. Love to share.
Amalia64 was my second partner and her quilt will go in the mail today!! Just have to address and write a note. Which I seem to frequently forget to put in the box. LOL

Krystyna, I watched the video and it looks like a really cool and easy way to quilt! I'm hearing impaired though and cannot make out what she is saying (no closed captioning ). So I might have missed something that easily answers the following question:

You wrote that The top block and batting should be 12" and the backing should be 14". Is it correct to assume that is with no extra added for seam allowances?

Also could you PM me with your mailing address so I can send you my block? That is SOOO NICE that you are doing this for your new young friend.

Last of all, not to be a pest or anything, (people tend to say that before they are): did you get a PM from me a couple of days ago regarding next month's swap?

Glad you found the video useful. I think it is a terrific method to use for quilts made by a group. The only inconsistency is with the batting. There is no seam allowance involved at all.
Will PM everyone with my address soon ... need to catch up on some other things first.

I finished up my partners Doll quilt/ Wall hanging and she ask me to post pictures and it will be in the mail soon I still need to add my label. Hope she likes it, I have fell in love with this block. It's so easy I had an extra block from the boomerang 7 group that was patriotic so I used it for the backing, I wish I could remember who made it so I could give credit.
