Will the next swap be mug rugs ... or something else? I like the altered and embellished idea; we can use imaginations.

Just passing through, I would like to know how you all made them so flat! and making the round binding. I made the circles, put the pieces together, but they still didn't come out right. another thing for me to learn!!

My first one came out kinda' bowl shape but after that they were better ... and flatter. The flattest one was the one where I sewed right sides together leaving an opening, then turning right side out and stitching the opening. They were really fun to make and I'm looking forward to the next swap. Join us!

I noticed that I had to ease in some of the bias binding, making sure not to get it too tight. They still seemed curled up until the point where I turned the binding to the back and hand sewed it. Once finished, they seemed to lay flat. I think true bias binding is key...or else the binding won't form to the curve and would pull the edges out of whack.
The one that I sewed RSF and turned laid flat, but wasn't truly round. It reminded me of the what the wheel must have looked like when the cavemen first made them.

I made TRUE bias binding...and one did not lie flat...I know now why..I pulled it too tight when attaching it! you can NOT force it on, it has to gently, ease itself into place when you sew it on!

I really, truly enjoyed the ROUND process...it was sort of new to me and it was a bit intimidating, but wow...it is not so bad and I just LOVE the look of all the rugs thus far!
