    Here is an update on the bookcase wall hanging WIP. Once it is done I will try to put together a set of detailed instructions, but for those who want to wing it, here's the general;

    5 rows, each row consists of 3 blocks, about 8.5" high by 10.5"long. Feel free to add strips if you want a larger wall hanging. Everything is 1/4" seam allowance.
    Each of the rows EXCEPT the top row has a 2" wide by length of row strip of a dark color sewn to the top of the row (I used blue).
    The borders will be the same dark color, but the strips are 2.5" wide by length and width.
    I used varying strip widths for the books: 2.5", 2.0", 1.5", 1.0". I varied the height from the full 8.5" height to 7.5", 6.5", 5.5" and 4.5". The mating background strips are round numbers plus 1/2". For example, to achieve a full 8.5" strip with a 6.5" strip, add 2.0" plus 1/2" = 2.5". this will equal 9" but once you sew together with the 1/4" seam allowance, the finished length will be 8.5".
    You can also do strips on the diagonal, horizontal strips, or stacked squares. It will vary depending on the look you want.
    Add any embellishments you like. I appliqued pieces that I had drawn but you can use photo transferred items, fussy cut pieces, folded origami - anything you like.
    I plan on doing Stitch in Ditch quilting in order to give the books dimension, and diagonal lines for the background.

    Janice, the bookcase looks really, really good! Your cats look so cute on the shelves. I love what you have done with it and that owl looks good, too.

    BTW - use any binding method you want - I am probably going to birth mine so that I don't have to mess with the binding afterwards.

    I inherited a bag of pre cut Dresden wedges, but they are dated and boring in color and design, totally uninspiring to me. But they are good fabric and perfectly cut and I can't waste them. So this is what I am going to do w/ them. I won't use this b/w fabric b/c it was just a small piece in my stash. I did this mock up to put w/ the precuts so I would remember what I was planning when I get to them. I will use a b/w funky polka dot though. I really like how it makes it less boring, more modern.
