Aw thanks Nolee. Any number of options would work. The first one I made has 3 layers of batting. You could also put a layer of jeans material in the middle, or somebody suggested here a couple of layers of old towels. There should also be heat-resistant fabrics out there for ironing board covers, etc.

question: I prefer a bit larger hot pads,, or pot holders....If sending larger ones is ok, would I get larger ones in return? Just my humble thoughts,,I have a big hand, and am clumsy....LOL Jacie

Yes, larger is great! It depends on what people send, but I'll try to send back about the same sizes that you've sent in.

Any of the sites that have quilt squares can be used as pot holders. You would just be doing one square instead of the whole quilt.
Count me in on this one. I'll let you know how many by October!

Count me in! Don't know how many I can make as I also have the Winter swap & One-a-Month Quilting Bee swap, but it will be as many as I can up to 10!!
A 5 inch potholder is awfully small, at least for my hands!! An 8 inch would be more in line! Just a thought....
By the way, I mailed my red/white/blue swap blocks (24 blocks) from west Texas to NY by 1st class mail & they both came & went within a 3-5 day time limit. Priority Mail is a bit pricy for those of us on a fixed income. Also from west Texas to Calif would go quickly, even by 1st class mail! That should be an okay option....

The pattern I'm making is 8 1/2 x 8 1/2. So mine will be a little larger too.
