Honchey...glad you received my envelope. The other day I went down into my quilting room (been awhile) and found your envelope already to be mailed...but I thought that I already did! Happy Belated Birthday.

Hey I figured out the block for that star quilt using the French Braid. I made one in white muslin and marked each piece so you can see it. The finished block is 12.5" square. I will post a picture tomorrow (I forgot my phone at home today!). I am already cutting out the strips for 2 - one for my DD best friend's birthday and FOR ONCE, one for me!!!!

Ok got the picture. So each block is 12.5", you need a 6.5" sqauare, 3 strips 2.5" x 6.5", 3 strips 2.5" x 8.5" and 2 HSTs. I had trouble with the HSTs - I cut a 6.5" square then cut on the diagonal.
As you can see from the picture I came up a bit short. I am guessing that the square for the HST needs to be either 6 5/8" which should work exactly but be a pain to cut, or 6 3/4" then trimmed (I hate trmming). Any advice on that? Anyway, make 36 of the blocks and off you go. These are really well suited for fat quarters and jelly rolls. I am actually cutting strips WoF by 6.5" and 8.5" and cutting my strips into 2.5" segments. This should yield enough for 72 blocks or 2 quilt tops. I am using about 40 fabrics for all the strips so it will be very colorful. . |
