No I think I might match with you but I am not sure how we would work this.

Oops it looks like Debbie is already snatched up. If you still need me just send a PM.

I am a faux quilter. I can only piece and quilt by hand and the old hands are no longer cooperating. (Chemo left them numb to boot!) Applique I can do as long as it is by machine, so I guess I am classified as a topper. So I could do a top, add the batting and backing and my partner would have to do the quilting, or add borders or piecing then do the quilting.Too weird??

Elisabrat 01-03-2014 08:16 AM

I am thinking of posting a sample block from each group of blocks I have so you can see what I am taking about on my holiday quilt sets.. is anyone interesting in seeing them? I would love for these quilt blocks to find a reason to be sewn together and made into a quilt that would be enjoyed. (ie holler if any of them speak to you!).

Rodney 01-03-2014 09:23 AM

Annaquilts and Applique, I'm open to whatever works best for you.
Annaquilts, if you're a better match for Applique, that's great. I think I misunderstood Applique's intent anyway.
Applique, if I'm correct you were looking for someone who wouldn't participate due to finances who could help you finish your quilt and be able to participate that way.
I originally thought Applique was looking for someone who wouldn't mind receiving an unfinshed quilt. I don't mind that at all, but if helping Applique finish her quilt gets someone who wouldn't participate otherwise into the swap then I'm all for it.
I'm going to play regardless of who I'm partnered with.
I'm open to anything on this swap so it's whatever works best for everyone. :)

Hey Brat - post those pictures! Now since you and I were partners last year, I can brag to everyone else that the quilt you made me is gorgeous, treasured and in demand around here. I had to take it OUT of my mother's suitcase before it was stolen right off the guest bed on me. This is such a fun swap, and accomodating everyone's skills, finances, whims and enthusiasm will be half the fun. Rodney - are you going to use one of your vintage machines??

Rodney 01-03-2014 07:22 PM

TwinRiverFarm: Yes. They're all I own. After using them I really don't have any desire for a new one. The old ones are just too much fun. :) I do have a Singer Touch & Sew waiting for restoration and a Monkey Wards that's probably from the early 70s but that's as new as I want to go. I may end up using one of those for the actual quilting. My 1948 Singer 66 will get the piecing work. It only does a straight stitch but it does it quite well.
The quilt snatching sounds like something my mother might have done. :D Take it for the compliment it is.
Rodney

Elisabrat 01-04-2014 05:17 AM

ah let mom have it lol nah keep it its in your colors :) thanks twinriversfarm for the nice compliment. love yours too but its not mine any longer the man has commandeered it from me :( and it sits on his chair for when he is cold.. its loved too.

pics to come this afternoon have to run out to clinic!

Thanks everyone! I have signed up for the swap and think it will be a blast! I plan to do a show and tell as I go so everyone can enjoy (and comment)! Here is a quilt for the guild. The flying owl has now been stitched down and needs one more row of blocks so I can do the backing. If I can get the piecing done (I will force myself) then it should be done by Wednesday since it will only take a day to applique the back which is sitting there patiently waiting while I grumble about piecing! The penguins are waiting too but I promised to not touch them until this is done and off to be quilted. I wouldn't bet on it though....

Yosamitesa 01-04-2014 09:19 AM

Stunning quilt!!!

Elisabrat 01-04-2014 02:47 PM

WOW that is amazing! I am speechless (which like almost never happens). that owl is going to be one heck of a great quilt!

J_cody 01-04-2014 03:41 PM

I just pm'd a message to Yosamitese I hope I get to do this it sounds so fun and it will be interesting to see what everyones styles are. I am little intimidated thinking I haven't been quilting that long but I have so loved doing it.

J_cody 01-04-2014 03:45 PM

OK, now i am really intimidated. That is just indescribable, beautiful and just downright amazing.

Annaquilts 01-04-2014 04:56 PM

Wow Debbie! Wow!

Rodney 01-04-2014 07:11 PM

That's some truly beautiful work!
Rodney

roseirish48 01-04-2014 07:40 PM

that owl quilt would fit so beautifully in my owl collection. it is absolutely fantastic

Nexxus831 01-04-2014 08:33 PM

Rodney do you do repairs on the vintage machines? I live in Tacoma WA and picked up a machine that needs to be semi cleaned up and make sure it's in great working order. If you don't can you recommend someone?

Nexxus831 01-04-2014 08:37 PM

Debbie that quilt is beautiful. I absolutely LOVE it

applique 01-05-2014 05:34 AM

Thanks everyone. Keep in mind I started quilting (hand applique about 40 years ago). So I could do most any type of quilting by hand. When the hands went bad due to chemo I had to go entirely with machine work and ONLY my applique translated well. My 40 year old machine does only straight and zig zag (no hopping foot available) since it is an industrial type machine which I love and can service myself. I once timed an effort; three weeks to piece a simple background and two and a half hours for the applique. I envy those who do such beautiful quilting and piecing but will be content with my corner.
Yesterday I PLAYED. Traced and started to fuse hockey players, baseball players, mouse, rabbit, Amish girls, eagle, flowers etc. All now sitting in baggies ready to cut and assemble. Darn owl looks mad enough to eat them all!

Yosamitesa 01-05-2014 06:12 AM

Got lots of sign-ups. Will be going through and updating the list tomorrow. SO excited!!! I'm really excited to see all of the newbie quilters. ALL skill levels are welcome here. No one is perfect. I was intimidated last round when I participated. My partner made it easy with loving blue and white. I did a churn dash with all different centers. She made me a stunning fan quilt that my lil man (3 year old) keeps trying to steal because "it's pretty momma!!!" When I partner y'all up, there is a reason for who gets who. Y'all are making it easy this time. Just a couple more weeks and everyone can shop their stash or the stores and get started!!! ;)

Elisabrat 01-05-2014 08:02 PM

oh goody! boo! or is it Merry Christmas! lol whatever you pick! you do of course have to let Yosemitesa know if your interested in a quilt that is Halloween or Christmas oriented. pics still coming forgot to take them yesterday what a dork!

Yosamitesa 01-06-2014 08:02 AM

WOW!!! We are REALLY filling up!!! We have 17/30 swappers already!!! WOO HOO!!!

Here are the swappers I have. If your name is not on the list, let me know ASAP. Also, if you have to drop out, please let me know before the 24th.

I won't claim to be anywhere near an expert. I just started playing with these machines a few months ago. The old machines tend to be pretty sturdy and idiot proof. It's actually pretty hard to kill one. I'm happy to take a look and see what I can do for you. I'll send you a PM with my contact info.

QuilterMomma 01-07-2014 01:28 PM

What the heck?! I just wander around a little bit and see that this wonderful exchange is happening again. Hmmm, can I get one done by August. I am on a pledge not to start anything new this year but to finish the kits and UFOs that I have already accumulated. Going to have to send in my info but first check out what I have to offer. I know I have this red/black dancing feet Robbing Peter to Pay Paul quilt that has been started, or is it one of those scrap bag quilts I started, or a Buggy Barn chick quilt I started, or a log cabin I started, or a hunter star in fairy frost, or a fall colored quilt with assorted blocks, or an anitque block quilt, or a plaid quilt, or, the list goes on. These ones stay in the size requirement.
Thinking an applique quilt would be wonderful to have. Hint applique person who can do that part, but not the quilting which I can do quite well.

Gannyrosie 01-07-2014 01:37 PM

Just sent you a PM, I'm up for the challenge. Taking a break from kids quilts this year. More about me.

Elisabrat 01-08-2014 06:36 AM

phew not alone on wanting to use ufo's up.. they are lovely its just I get myself side tracked and off on other projects.. over and over and starting not finishing is plum dumb so this is tremendous for me to use these beautiful things up. omg just peaked out the window the sky is a crimson/salmon color with light blue above stunning. absolutely stunning I peak throught the branches of the trees without leaves across the street so the stark black of the branches against the rising sun colors.. wow a painting waiting to happen. get over here! Quick!!

Yosamitesa 01-08-2014 06:39 AM

So glad people are getting excited about this one!!! :) I'm excited. Hope I don't mess up the partnering. :p

Rodney 01-08-2014 09:53 AM

I'm sure whatever you come up with will be fine. This is all in fun and I know I'm excited to know who my partner will be and what they would like so I can get started. :)
Rodney

ljdugas31 01-08-2014 05:34 PM

well this sounds so good I want to play too!! I have lots of ufo's.I will pm you.

Yosamitesa 01-09-2014 06:59 AM

YEA!!! Sign-ups are looking good!!! So...I need everyone to check their in/sent boxes and make sure you have room in them. If possible, please clean out some of your sent or received messages. The message system on here allows a total of 500 in/sent messages in your mailbox. When in doubt, look at the bottom of your in box screen and it will tell you how many messages you have out of your 500 limit.

I've tried to send a couple of people pm's the last couple of days and they keep getting bounced back....

Gannyrosie 01-09-2014 03:08 PM

I am really getting exited about this swap. This will be a big step for me, just to let anyone know, if you are partnered with me you will have free will on whatever you choose. That's easy right?
Hurry Jan 24th.

QuilterMomma 01-10-2014 07:58 AM

I am signing up. I will need to do my pm, but no time at this second. Have to ponder a few things first of what I have and want. Gannyrosie sounds like a great partner.

dabbler312 01-11-2014 10:38 AM

Wow I stumbled onto a new thread - what a great idea to make a quilt for a fellow quilter; I have several kits in my stash just waiting to be put together - what a perfect opportunity to make one. There is still time to decide. HMMMM
