Bug, super cute round.

maryb119 08-30-2020 03:23 PM

WOW! Great border on TG center!!!!

travelinggramma 08-30-2020 04:28 PM

Bugaroo - I love the round - it really makes it pop. And the white with the darker colors is perfect to make the entire center pop. Thank you

Everytime I see an addition I think - how would anyone follow that! And then it happens.
And then I am still laughing about the squirrel - I went back to my folder where I have been keeping track and double checked - how could we all have missed it! How happy I am that someone mentioned it!

givio 08-30-2020 04:39 PM

Bugaroo, I like the light background you used. It's a contrast to the center and defines your round nicely. I agree with TG. Your points are lovely. Nice job!

sewbizgirl 08-30-2020 05:48 PM

These quilts are coming out amazing! Love the tree and mound for the squirrels! Macybaby, are you going to make the quilt look like it's hanging from the tree? That would make it into a perfect picture. I also didn't catch the backwards tail on the squirrel until it was pointed out....
Love your round on the blue quilt, Bugaroo! It's just beautiful on the quilt.
I've been out of town with the grandbabies all weekend, but now I'm home and will continue finding the right round to add to Mary's quilt. Glad I have time.

carriem 08-30-2020 05:54 PM

Great additions this weekend!!

I was able to get to the LQS on Friday and can't wait to start working on my round for Jaba's quilt this week. :) My daughter was very excited I went with the fabric she picked as one of my options....it's been years since she's gone fabric shopping with me so it was fun.

Love that round Bugaroo - I've got to not start thinking of what I'll add until I'm done with Mona's. 54.5" unfinished is what we'd be at if everyone added the 6" per side, but it sounds like that's a target and not a hard rule.

Here is a few more pictures. This leaf cluster took almost 2 hours to stitch out, so I'm going to be at this for a while. I've got three designs for leaf clusters, then plan on putting some flowers growing at the bottom.

I had not planned on doing anything to make the quilt look like it's hanging from the tree, but it is an option if Mona would like that. Might be better to wait until it's all done and see if it would look good. I do like how it looks like a quilt within a quilt, and I think with the next borders, it could look like a quilt within a quilt within a quilt. I like that look!

If anyone is curious, my largest hoop is 14"x12". I hoop the stabilizer and then use washable school glue to attach the fabric on the top. So far it's been working pretty well, and it sure does make getting the fabric lined up correctly with the design a lot easier.

Even with a big hoop, when the design is 10x12, there is not much room for movement.

Bugaroo 08-31-2020 06:21 AM

Thanks Macybaby for addressing the size. I remember Sewbizgirl mentioning it but with 85 pages of posts, it was hit or miss in finding it. The leaves are just the right color to bring the tree to life. And I agree, it is so looking like a quilt with in a quilt.

Rebaquilts 08-31-2020 06:59 AM

Love how the triangles tie into the center Bug! Hugs!!!

Iceblossom 08-31-2020 07:11 AM

Love that movement, Bug!

I've forgotten the measurements on my round and it isn't out for the day yet -- today I will be putting on the border. Spent the last couple days with the hubby he had a half day Saturday and Sunday completely off, today he's back on 12 hour shifts.

I think with my round on it will be somewhere in the 52" square realm and that it currently measures around 40". The pictures I show are on a queen sized bed, so it is still a couple inches short of the width on either side, but not a full round -- or maybe one side of a round would show fully.

I personally like bed sized projects so size isn't so much an issue for me, and I started with an 18" square. I'm still really comfortable with people doing what they feel needs to be done and/or what they want to do on my top. I think for my group it will be too late to turn the projects on point after this round. As I did the math for my original idea, it was about 8" wider (total, or just 4" per side about equivalent to a 10" border) on point than with a finished 6" border, and I felt that could be accommodated easily by later rounds turning it rectangular. Size was always a concern, and after this it starts getting really big with that diagonal measurement. Maybe still could be done but maybe in partnership with the person after you, each doing half.

If it's time to turn mine into a rectangle, that's fine with me, you can do top/bottom or just a wide side or narrow or whatever! I've envisioned me doing a final round with the Basket Blocks from Mary's Stash (not our group Mary but made from the stash of fabrics I used) and that it will end up rectangular at some point/some how because I prefer them to square tops. If you want to tilt my top, or off-set it in some way, feel free and try to have some fun along the way.

I'm fine with whatever you guys want to do with this quilt. I think I will be keeping this one.

I am in awe of those leaves - beautiful. It amazes me what a machine can do. I used to wish for an embroidery machine, then realized I love my old plain sewing machine and straight stitching!
Ive been a busy bee and got 5 paper pieced bees done.

Bugaroo 08-31-2020 01:08 PM

Oh my Google! Those bees are adorable. I love the different colors!

LAF2019 08-31-2020 04:39 PM

love those bees! I'm amazed at how everybody is pulling it all together. i've seen round robins, where it just looks like a series of separate borders. but all of these quilts you are making are so cohesive and each round complements the previous rounds to make it look like one intentional quilt that just happens to be constructed with borders. nice job everyone!

sewbizgirl 08-31-2020 06:00 PM

The bees are great!

Macybaby 09-02-2020 02:43 AM

I love those bees too!

I'm taking a Thursday and Friday off so will have an extra long weekend. DH wants help with putting the roof on his new shed (it has bare trusses right now) but that shouldn't take that much time so I expect to get Mona's top finished up this weekend.

I also hope to spend time getting to know my embroidery design software better. I want to digitize my employer's logo to put on the quilt top made from mask scraps, so that will be an interesting learning experience. I'm downloading the most current software upgrade right now. I'm also going to move my embroidery machine, was waiting for a UPS to show up from Amazon, and it arrived yesterday. Right now I have the machines plugged into the same one, but when I move the embroidery machine, it will need it's own.

Iceblossom 09-02-2020 03:47 AM

Those wonderful bees! I'm so glad the package was found. Bummer that it isn't part of my group (I had such the idea!!), but I'm so happy to see it delivered and in progress.

The leaves are on my current round/Givio's center and I'm still debating on how wide to cut that final narrow float edge, but I'll be sending Mary a message that I am ready to mail when she is ready to receive. I was able to show my Tuesday group, and the comfort quilt is quilted -- it just keeps getting better and better looking, and is at the one lady's for binding. Another one will be making the label, I don't get much credit other than a few extra blocks, layout, and providing the backing but it is a group project. Many hands making light work :) Our friend's husband did get out of the hospital and is doing as well as hoped but she was unable to join us yesterday, we are hoping she will be able to be there next week for the quilt presentation.

I have a few more pinks and orange and other odds and ends that will be going to Rebecca. I found a box that I thought I sent two months ago still in my sewing room, good thing is that it was a random donation and not something being waited on... One other fabric package that will also be going to the post office.

So -- if anyone is in need of care packages of fabric or other things, I have a day or two to get it together and I'm going to the post office anyway. Please let me know, plenty of time and fabric and packaging on hand.

Still two weeks before my trip. Next day or two will be transition between projects and getting out the Frolic UFO again.

I have some ideas about LeeAnn's center coming to me next -- and this morning I got a new one I'm pretty excited about!

birds and bees

Since we have seen some bees and squirrels, here are some of my cardinals and a close up of my kitty helping out right after I laid out all of my additions, she plopped herself right in the center of the project, how do kitties know just where to go, to get all the attention? I'm almost done with motifs and have been sharing progress with IceBlossom so she can get those creative juices flowing ;-) Hugs all!

LeeAnn 09-02-2020 12:08 PM

How cute Reba! I love it! Of course, your kitty loves the bird.

Bugaroo 09-02-2020 01:23 PM

Adorable little birds! ..... and you know cats rule!

sewbizgirl 09-02-2020 02:09 PM

Both the little red birds and the beautiful kitty are too cute!

Iceblossom 09-03-2020 07:03 AM

I spent a lot of time yesterday sorting fabric, what comes out of stash must eventually be put back in. I'm also looking for the piece I have remaining of the background to my center. I know I put half in the box and sent it on the road, but I kept a piece too.

I'm running out of places to look. I've found the pieced blocks, I've found other things from that time period. Giving myself one more day to look/continue to organize and then I'm going to assume I mailed it out with a box I sent at the same time, or I put it "somewhere safe" and it will continue to be absent for another 8 years when it will suddenly fall on my head...

Always fun to play with the fabrics, have decided that I have enough for a "collection" of the spongy textured type of fabrics to keep them together instead of separated by color. Not sure what to do with the fabric yet, just that it should stay together for now.

Mary, I'm hoping to mail out tomorrow, will let you know either way. Next week has Labor Day (Monday holiday) so will probably get there about Wednesday, but I'll have the hubby read me the tracking numbers.

maryb119 09-03-2020 03:23 PM

Iceblossom, I will watch for it in the mail.

givio 09-03-2020 05:26 PM

IceBlossom, I hope you post a picture before you mail it! :-)

Iceblossom 09-03-2020 06:16 PM

Yes, pictures will be taken and posted before packing :) I mostly played with fabric and slacked off today but tomorrow is another day!

sewbizgirl 09-03-2020 07:29 PM

I will have a picture soon. I've been working on Mary's every day since I got it, and only today landed on what I need to do. It may take me a few days to finish, but I'll show it when it's done.

Ok, here we go. I basically wimped out on the planned .5" finished float and cut the pieces at 2" to either help/give Mary more work or at least more quilt to deal with. As designed the current finish measurement is a rather odd 53". With the extra space, it can be trimmed down to a 1/4" float or trimmed anywhere up to 55" (finished) square.

Shot one is with the borders on, ready for the box. Shot two is a little better at showing it but doesn't have the final float on.

I'll be leaving for the post office in the next hour. I'll only have two of the hoped for four packages going today, so another trip is in my near future. With the holiday weekend, I wouldn't expect the box to arrive before Wednesday.

Rebaquilts 09-04-2020 09:47 AM

those pretty greens

Wow IceBlossom, those photos really show the greens picking up the greens in the fans and the shape of the leaves mimics the pointy nature of the dresden fan tips. Looks great, cools down the center and will give Mary lots of options for her border. Kudos!!

travelinggramma 09-04-2020 02:25 PM

Group #2 - It is September and we all have been working on everyone's round #3. We are ahead so no rush. I just wanted to make sure everyone except JABA had a round. I have both Bugaroo#3 and Carrie#4 (which I will hold on to for a month!) I show Mona has Macybabys; Carrie and Jaba; Bug just finished TG; and Macybaby has Mona.
If this isn't correct let me know.
Carrie - how are you doing and what has doctor said?
Jaba - are you getting down stairs and sewing at all? Are you watching the squirrel on the tree and wondering what in the world am I going to do with that??

givio 09-04-2020 04:20 PM

Oh, Thank you, IceBlossom!! Your round really pleases me. I love those scrappy greens and can't wait to see them in person. :-) I think your round gives 'the eye a rest' from what's going on in the middle-- it's a nice compliment to the overall piece. Thanks!

carriem 09-04-2020 04:25 PM

Thanks for asking Travelinggramma! I am starting to feel much better. The injection site of the cortisone is no longer hurting and I was able to rake and clean up brush in the yard today, plus the typing I need to do for my DS biz and I am not in too much pain tonight!! YAY!! Lord willing I'll get a chance to do some fabric cutting and maybe sewing tomorrow...that will be the next test. I go back to see the doctor the end of October...if I am still having pain. If not, she said I can cancel the appt. I guess we'll see how long the injection works...

Yes I have Jaba's center to add a border to.

maryb119 09-04-2020 04:27 PM

Great border, iceblossom! Now I get to figure out what goes next.

sewbizgirl 09-04-2020 06:29 PM

Love the round, Iceblossom. That’s really a beautiful quilt.

carriem 09-05-2020 04:20 AM

Iceblossom, I agree your border is a great addition!

So, question...how do you all add the pics to your profile? I think it is fun to see the growing RR centers there!!

Macybaby 09-05-2020 06:54 AM

Hello everyone!

DH and I got the roof done on the shed and a good start on installing the garage door so DH can finish that and then paint the exterior without my help. I also think he can put up shelves and move stuff into the shed without my help too https://cdn.quiltingboard.com/images/smilies/smile.png.

So that gives me three days to sew! I got distracted and downloaded a few more embroidery designs. I'm thinking of putting an owl in up in the tree . . . it would replace one clump of leaves to keep things balanced.

givio 09-05-2020 07:24 AM

carriem, Are you asking how we added the picture that you see on the left when we write a comment? It's called an Avatar. To add one, click on the brown button with your name at the top of the page, in the header, across from the Quilting Board logo. In the drop down menu choose User Control Panel. In the left hand column of links, choose Edit Avatar.

carriem 09-05-2020 07:39 AM

Thank you givio! I am usually pretty computer savvy but kept wanting to go to my profile thinking it should be in there and couldn't find it!! As you can see, I got it figured out and added my last fully completed round pic...

edited: well...I added it...thought I saved it...I'll go try again

Iceblossom 09-05-2020 07:50 AM

Thanks all for the nice comments. I tried to get you a good picture but I need to figure out some better techniques, I'm getting lighting worked out more and more. Currently I'm standing unsteadily on a little step stool, I think if I get the actual 3-step ladder thing I can get a better angle with less distortion.

I'm still going to be checking in daily but am not planning on working on the project again until next round, and since I'll be on the road, not until the 23rd or after. Rebecca and I are coordinating her round getting to me and might appreciate a little flexibility.

Until after the trip, I have the Frolic UFO to work on, it's at the (for me at least) exciting phase of putting together all the little time consuming fussy sub-units into the puzzle and make something out of them. I've done UFOs before in various stages of construction but I think I rather like this having almost everything done perfectly and not having to redo anything.

I just like to spend some time each day with fabric and piece much faster than I quilt down. Really the only thing that keeps me from making more tops than I do is the getting them quilted part. I no longer have access to the long arm I was able to use for several years. On my domestic machine the queen sized projects I make are pretty demanding on me physically, but I'm able to deal with a twin sized and smaller. The Bernina is rather lovely for quilting actually but I can see where I would want a flush mounted table. I just really prefer moving the sewing machine head as opposed to the quilt, but that's not what my small house or budget say.

jaba 09-05-2020 07:56 AM

carriem, glad you are feeling better! Be careful to not overdo, those shots don't last forever.
TG, I've woke up dreaming about that tree. Hope I get some inspiration when I actually have it here because right now I can't imagine what to do with it. I have sewn a little, made a wall hanging and a table runner for fall, just finishing up the binding on the runner now. Haven't been to the sewing room in a few days but hopefully today I'll be able to feel comfortable with the stairs. When my legs get shaky I'm always a little leery that I'll fall so I don't even chance it. I have a mess to clean up though, material all over that needs re-folded and put away.
