Correction... in my post I addressed "Carriem". Should have been Macybaby. I got my receive and send confused.

Iceblossom 10-24-2020 06:15 AM

So much beauty and joy!

Today is going to be a bit busy, and I'm finding more and more if I don't post before noon I don't post at all...

But today while the hubby is at work I'll be laying out my 9-patch blocks and putting that quick project together.

And I did come up with the most perfect ending for Mary's quilt... if I can just bridge that gap between the idea and the reality. I'm hoping it works. I've pulled some fabric. But there are still some translation issues to work out.

Hope everyone has a good day with whatever translations they have to deal with. Today I'm feeling very good that my lingering lung congestion is down to a manageable couple of minutes of coughing mostly in the morning.

It sure turned into fall quickly here. With our little pack of dogs we keep the doors open as much as possible, but not below 60! To the delight of the skiers "it is snowing in the pass". Good for them, hope it stays there and out of my yard this winter. I have a tradition of forecasting the weather by onions. You need local onions, but the harder the winter, the more of those paper layers and the thinner the rings are. My belief is that this is going to be a pretty easy winter -- at least where the onions were grown on the other side of the state. The walla walla onions had thick rings and barely any paper.

Iceblossom....my mom watched the winter forecast by watching the wooly catapillers. The darker they are...the worst the winter. I don't know if it's true but she swore by it.

Mona, there is no "average"... Your work is always lovely. You have contributed well to every quilt you have worked on! https://cdn.quiltingboard.com/images/smilies/wink.png

Thanks everyone for your encouragements, yes we are our own worst enemy.
you all make me want to push myself out of my comfort zone and make me a better quilter.

This is Macybaby's finished top. I hope you like it. The picture made the colors brighter than they are and the yellow prairie points kind of washed out in color. I'll have in the mail next week.

maryb119 10-24-2020 03:58 PM

Bugaroo! Great ending for Macybaby's quilt!

carriem 10-24-2020 04:02 PM

Bugaroo, love your addition to Macybaby's quilt.

Also others that were finished this week...I am sorry I didn't comment on them all!! I wasn't getting notifications this week so didn't realize had others get added to...

I have 2 sides on Bugaroo's quilt...hope to work on it a bit more tomorrow. :) My goal is to mail by the end of the week.

sewbizgirl 10-24-2020 05:09 PM

What a bright, fun quilt for Macybaby. Great finish, Bug, and great effort from the whole group. Congrats!

Macybaby 10-25-2020 06:39 AM

Bugaroo - that looks very nice!

I've got to get TG's quilt ready to mail. It's been safely stashed in the LA room while I was painting and moving stuff around. I've still not opened up Jaba's top, and am looking forward to working on that. Right now I'm getting caught up with the Pumpkin block swap - those have to be in the mail in another week.

givio 10-25-2020 08:11 AM

Bugaroo, I've only seen Prairie Points before as a binding application on the edge of a quilt. That's an interesting addition! And the bright colors help tie things together!

Bugaroo 10-26-2020 06:44 AM

Macybaby, is it alright to go ahead and send your quilt back to you? I can mail tomorrow if it works with your schedule.

Givo, I saw it done on Pinterest and thought it was a great way to add color without cutting up the pink Ombre background. It's hard to see in my picture but the pink has bubbles outlined in gold metallic and the yellow points also have gold bubbles in them.

Mona G 10-26-2020 09:46 AM

bugaroo, great finish.

I am sad that the RR is coming to and end.

Looking forward to the next one.

Macybaby 10-26-2020 02:10 PM

Bugaroo - mail when it works for you. I've not got any plans for going out of town at this point. DH and I hoped to get away last week while I was on vacation, but the weather just did not cooperate.

Carrie M - I'm done, I hope you like it.
I need to add to the book and then I'll get it in the mail.

sewbizgirl 10-26-2020 03:34 PM

Mona, would love to see your row, but the photo is so small... Can you post it any larger? The quilt looks pretty.

givio 10-26-2020 05:39 PM

I tried to enlarge it, but it gets pixelated... It looks like a nice finish though!

I enlarged it, hope this is better.

Mona G 10-27-2020 10:41 AM

I just opened my quilt and I am in Awe!! The photos do not show all the details that make this such a beautiful work of art.
Thank you, Thank you, Thank you.

I think I will be hanging this on the wall once I get it quilted.
This RR has been a joy, can't wait to do it again.

Mona, love your addition to my quilt!! I can't wait to see it in real life!!!

Sharon, I got your border done today. I tried and tried (4 different things) to incorporate the green/bees that I bought but they just didn't look right. I like how the black finishes it off...I hope you do too!! I'll mail when I go to town on Friday.

I go to the surgeon about my wrist/thumb on Friday. Expecting an MRI this time since the x-ray didn't show much and cortisone injection didn't help...depending on what the next step is, I would love to join another Round Robin!!

givio 10-27-2020 05:30 PM

Thanks for your effort with the picture, Mona!
carriem, Your choice of black/golden yellow goes great with the honey bee theme that was going on, And your half hexies, sure make a cute scalloped edge to finish that top. Well done! You are sure lucky to have such a big wall for taking a picture. :-)

carriem 10-27-2020 06:07 PM

Thanks givio :) My design wall is 2 sheets of foam insulation (4x8) that we covered with flannel backed tablecloth (flannel side out). I can stack them/stand them up next to the wall when not in use and spread out as needed for a bigger project. I like that smaller things will just stick to the flannel, but as projects grow I can just stick pins through the foam.

sewbizgirl 10-27-2020 06:22 PM

Carrie, what a beautiful finish on Sharon's quilt! The edges look like scallops a bit. Super nice!

maryb119 10-27-2020 06:23 PM

Love the bees!!!

my-ty 10-27-2020 06:47 PM

Congratulations to all the amazing quilters in these 2 Round Robins. Each time the quilts have changed hands, I contemplated (as a bystander) what I would do if I received it and honestly I was stumped every time. I have been amazed and astounded by your choices and how the look and feel of the quilts evolved. Excellent job by everyone!

sewbizgirl 10-27-2020 08:01 PM

Thank you my-ty! Honestly, my first step when I get one of the quilts, is to stare at it and obsess over what to do for the first week or so. Eventually an idea comes. I do think about the quilt night and day until 'the idea' comes. This RR was a great exercise in trusting your own creativity.

Iceblossom 10-28-2020 03:03 AM

Hello all. I've been quiet these last couple of weeks as once again I'm having issues with the outside world. Trying to not get political but I'm tired of the divisions and want to become more united. We had a nice Tuesday group yesterday but my it is getting colder... we are trying to figure out options on how to meet for the winter.

But --- quilting is going well. Turned out I had one more batch of 9-patches coming and they are in now.

I am soooo excited with my border for this round. All the wonderful work that went on before me has made each of these rounds so unique and fun -- and hard. If I can achievement my mental image on this, I'm going to consider myself good :)

I'm really going to be interested in the quilting down part, that is always my nemesis. Any of you thinking in advance? You going to go fancy or basic and overall?

sewbizgirl 10-28-2020 06:02 AM

Hello Caroline and all, hope you are enjoying these cooler temps!

C, can't wait to see the round you envision. As for quilting, I might change my mind when I have my quilt in hand, but for now I am thinking to do each round custom quilted... no basic overall. I'll let each round speak to me. Not too fancy, tho. Outline and echo seem to be the way to go.

According to my tracking with USPS, Reba should have received her quilt. Waiting to hear...

klaws 10-28-2020 06:19 AM

I am in awe of all the finished quilts so far. They are a work of art and I envy your talent. Great job ladies!

travelinggramma 10-28-2020 06:41 AM

Carriemn – you made the final row of bugaroo’s top perfect. I had loved the material but adding the scallop or should I say hives is a stroke of genius. This is one beeeautiful quilt – thanks to all the hands.
Mona – another great finish. I hope Carrie can get a better photo shot of your add on.
Mona – all the work in your top is truly lost with a camera! My mom asked what you would do with it and now I can tell her you will hang it up because it truly is a work of art. Glad you like it!
Sewbizgirl – love your steps! All our preconceived ideas go out the window upon receipt of the quilt. Then obsession takes over and we think of it constantly, auditioning fabric, going thru books and online to see if anything sparks and light. And the most important – trust our creativity. Because we all think differently, and see it differently and thus add on differently and that’s what makes a round robin so special!

Bugaroo 10-28-2020 06:51 AM

Oh Carrie, I love it! It reminds me of a window (my center) with in a window and everyone's round just added to the illusion. Then your beautiful round finishes off and adds a frame. So pretty. Thank you everyone who worked on my quilt. This being my first RR I did not know what to expect but I have grown and enjoyed it tremendously.

I received my quilt back today...I love it!!! Some asked for a bigger picture so I tried to get one, plus a close up of the beautiful batik used that really matches the rest of the quilt so nicely. :) Current size is around 55x80...fits great on the built in day-bed (twin-size mattress) in my living room.

I also got to the post office so Sharon your bee quilt is on its way home! :)

sewbizgirl 10-30-2020 12:55 PM

Much better picture, Carrie... thank you! Great finish.

Iceblossom 10-31-2020 04:32 AM

So I've been quietly keeping to my quilting and happy things and last week has been better while being mostly off line.

I have had some talks with Rebecca who has been under the weather. I gave her extra freedom in border sizes and such, she knows that I wish to end up with something queen sized and rectangular and that I still have those "basket" blocks to hopefully put with my top. Well, they will go, just don't know front or back... I also told her to not overly stress the time factor, that if she could get "substantially complete" pictures by the 15th so the group can see I can wait for actual delivery until the end of the month.

My goal is to have my borders on in time for my upcoming Tuesday Group, so I will most definitely be on time! Getting a picture is going to be tough, but I think the best bet is to go to my husband's work lunch room.

I'm happy with what I've come up with. I decided my original concept wasn't going to work well for two reasons, one was I didn't have enough black fabric and two, it was basically a Seminole design and super small and all the seams would make it stiff and uncomfortable. So I played with the scale, enlarging it greatly (while keeping close to 6", oh... 10" blocks would have been so much easier and doable!) and reducing the amount of black I was using to what I actually have until I had a compromise of vision, fabric, and quilt. Or I have something anyway!

I want to say again how much our efforts have interested and amused the people around me. I have my small group, neighbors and at least 6 other people following the adventures and story via email. Everyone has been so impressed by all of you, and maybe the neighbors might be thinking of me as more eccentric than crazy :p

maryb119 10-31-2020 05:49 AM

iceblossom...I am sure I will love whatever you add. I can't wait to see it.

Yes, this round robin has been interesting to see what each one has added next. We have some talented ladies in this group!

givio 10-31-2020 07:48 AM

Ice, the same with me-- I have a friend at work who I shared pictures of a top I was working on by email, then just started sending her all our pictures and she's enjoying seeing our work. I've also shared with my sisters by email. So, even people not on the board are getting a taste of what we are creating.

Everyone has loads of compliments, girls!

Here is some more blocks. It was a very productive day! Sorry for the pictures being a bit off color... bedroom was shady today.

Aunt59, the picture came out a bit dark. The coral is lighter with gold edging around the bubbles.

Have4boys, I picked Maine! The lobster print is a light blue but it's showing up more white.

Jaba's colors was the only one that came out pretty close to actual colors.

givio 10-31-2020 02:11 PM

Bugaroo, These must be your blocks for the 3 Month Boom thread?

I made 8 blocks for Round 5 so far today. My goal is 10 today. I'm taking a break for the Trick-or-Treaters.

Bugaroo 10-31-2020 03:05 PM

Yes they are ... I did it again!!
