Krystyna 10-13-2012 12:29 PM

I have a silly question: do our partners know they are our partners? Or is it secret?

thomp116 10-13-2012 01:39 PM

Hey Krystyna.......I was wondering the same thing. Last year we received ornaments from the people we sent to - don't know if it is the same this year.

And, no, my ornaments aren't needle felted. They are wool, though. Funny thing, I was just talking to a shop owner about wool felting today at a quilt show. That's one thing I haven't tried yet. Maybe some day.

BTW, my ornaments won't go out till Monday. I forgot that it's Saturday, so the PO closes early.

SEGASAL 10-13-2012 01:44 PM

the ornaments!

1 Attachment(s)
yep these two will be going to different people..

Krystyna 10-13-2012 01:49 PM

Funny thing - my friend Brenda (a.k.s. "Frenda") asked me if I wanted to do it ... I think I said, no thank you and ... SURPRISE! I have TWO partners!

jaba 10-13-2012 02:11 PM

Krystyna, you don't know who your partner is until you receive your ornament in the mail from them. Just like the SP packages.

Krystyna 10-13-2012 02:38 PM

Thanks Jaba. Always confusing when you are Tom Sawyered into a swap you know nothing about! Nonetheless I know both of my partners and my ornaments are almost done!

Jennifer 10-13-2012 03:04 PM

Jaba,
I LOVE the Reindeer!!!! I remember seeing your initial post and was wondering who would get this beauty. AND IT WAS ME!! Thank you so much.

Anastasia 10-13-2012 03:38 PM

So.. yea.. I found a box.. and I like the darned things so much.. I have to decorate them... with glitter glue.. snowflakes... yes.. so.. it's a bonus gift yes? Then I will wrap them in paper bag paper and mail them on monday.. And so I decided.. and that one person.. yes her.. she gets the purple.. and the other one.. yep.. that's the one.. she gets the blue.

starshine 10-13-2012 03:59 PM

Krystyna the selection is random. Last year I received one from one of the 2 people I had to send to, but that is a random match that just happened. It isn't planned to match 2.

Anastasia, bonus gift sounds wonderful, hmm will I get a glittery box with my ornament? I can hope. I'm sure Krystyna would love it if you sent her a decorated box, her little ones love the glittery stuff. And Happy Birthday early!

I found the perfect craft item for one of my ornies, and I think I'm good to go for the second one. Now if I can get my dr table cleared off I can work one something this week end.

Prayers continuing for Brenda and family.

Krystyna I feel the same way about your doll quilt swap. Have so many scraps and pieces keep thinking I should do this and use some up. But I have no idea where to even start. Do you mostly use them for little wall hangings or?? I know, you're probably saying what a dum questions, leave it to me, but.....I am really dumb over these. Can you explain a little so maybe I will understand. You have a few in your group that have been regulars and keep telling me I should do this, just never have taken the final leap. MUCH HELP would be appreciated please. PM if you'd like or on here, you might get more signing up. Anyway, when you have time would like more info.:)

As you can see, I'm not Krystyna, but participate regularly in the DQ Swap. It's fabulous, that's what! :) You can do whatever your heart desires with the DQ's...many of us love small wallhangings for our walls...some actually do display them with their dolls. I love exchanging quilts and making new friends in the process. You get a partner and the two of you pm back and forth to get to know each other better and you can either make something specifically that your partner would enjoy, or you can work ahead on things that you've been wanting to try or you just love to do? I love the fun, connecting with others and making something different every month. It gives me a change to work on my quilting skills also without committing to a whole quilt and I can finish soon and feel really successful! Whew! Those are a few reasons I why enjoy participating! :)

jaba 10-13-2012 06:02 PM

Ronda, is each month a different theme or color or? How do you know where to start if it isn't?

Some months there are themes, but Krystyna always give those well ahead of the upcoming month, and themes are ALWAYS optional! In other words, you are free to make things you love. :)

lynnie 10-13-2012 06:59 PM

Saw kenny rogers a few yrs back did alot of christmas songs. My favorite song for christmas is FatherChristmas by emerson lake and palmer. If you havent heard it, go to youtube and listen. Its such a beautiful song.

Happy Tails 10-13-2012 07:28 PM

Wow there are so many beautiful Christmas songs. If I had to pick a favorite, I would have to pick the kENNY & Dolly cd and Bony M.....one of my favorite ones, not sure if it's a Christmas one or not, but that's the only time they seem to play it, is Angels Among Us.by Alabama..I think it's also on youtube and frankly it's quite a fitting song for this group :)

sasquilter 10-14-2012 05:04 AM

All of the ornaments coming in are so beautiful. I just love Christmas and the hanging of the ornaments. Can't wait for Thanksgiving day after all the turkey to get the trees out!!!!! My swap partner received her ornaments on Thursday but haven't heard from her yet. Bet she's out of town or making ornaments furiously and no time for idle chatter right now. This is my first ornament swap and so much fun!!!!

Elisabrat 10-14-2012 05:17 AM

For those who don't know this is ANASTASIA's BIRTHDAY WEEK lol she is celebrating all week. happy unbirthday AGAIN kiddo.

Those are super ornaments. I will be sitting at the post office box waiting to open them. I think you are all fibbers. Those reindeer are MINE. I need a herd of them. Perfect spot right by the tv so give em up. MINE ALL MINE.

music: I just got the greatest hits of dean martin. I must be a total dork. I love it too. :) stuff my mother used to listen to, and my dad always wore black suits, white shirts black ties and they were such a stylish couple true dean martin/rat pack music followers. Went to the "Bimbo" club in SF all the time which was IT in the 50's. Of course then I go to Italian music and well I am all over the place!
thanks to the QB friends here who are donating ornaments to the senior tree. I am very appreciative of all the help I can get. They will be loved.

What she said! :D As for what I personally do with them ... I live in a teeny tiny cottage by the sea and there are windows everywhere so the original occupants could enjoy the sea breeze -- and that means there's not a lot of wall space. I do have some of them in the room that serves as living room and dining room and happily these have the colors that match the room (walls are hunter green). Most of the rest of them are in the only area with walls ... the stairwell! I had planned a system of dowels with fishing line so I could display them on the brick fireplace, but never got it completely worked out. Some are also used on table tops. I do hope you'll join us. We do some remarkable things. Here is a link to quilts I made http://www.quiltingboard.com/members...bums16855.html and one to quilts I've received http://www.quiltingboard.com/members...bums16991.html (have to update that one!) and here is a link to our group http://www.quiltingboard.com/groups/...group-g14.html-- all the albums have several pages.

rwquilts 10-14-2012 06:25 AM

Ah oh! My bad Segasal! I'm Ronda...sorry...I was trying to get them out quickly and obviously didn't do everything I needed to do. Hope you like them :)

Tothill 10-14-2012 07:57 AM

Well I did not get started on new ornaments this weekend. Yesterday was dedicated to my Secret Santa package. I got so much down and feel very proud of myself.

Today I will be out almost all day, so no ornament making, but I will be going though my collection of craft magazines and books to decide what to make. My attempt to design from scratch was a flop.

I feel bad for my ornament recipient that so many are already getting their gift, I mine is not made yet.

Hi! just a quick post, no time to read! I am having soooooooo much fun! Right now I am the Monster Dragon! Charleigh is the princess~ Today is her birthday and she is 3! I hate living so far away I miss so much! oh.... ooops I came here to report that we've got Mail! Hubby called this morning and told me I received a box! It came from Georgia and it is so light, he thinks it might be empty! But I know better, it has to have an ornament in it!

I want to thank my secret friend! I told him not to open till I get home! it will be a huge surprise for me!

The plan is to check in when she goes to sleep! Guess what she never goes to sleep until she is tucked in bed with 3 stories, and well Grammie falls asleep first most of the time! and well she is up long before my slow old bones wake up! Her daddy told Charleigh that she needs to let Grammie have one cup of coffee first! He gave me a really big cup! Bless him~

Thank you all so much for your thoughts and prayers. Left Texas and drove out to New Mexico and was able to spend a few hours with my dad before he passed away. I know he isn't suffering anymore and he is at peace. I'm so thankful that I was able to have those hours.

The ornaments that are being received all look so awesome!

Brenda I send my prayers to you also and want to say I lost my father 32 yrs ago. I keep him with me in spirit always and sometimes have one way conversations on what to do.. I know he hears me.

I have finally finished my ornaments! now to box them and mail them tomorrow and well yipppee I sure hope they are enjoyed. This is a great swap and if I am smart I will make a few during the year so I can be ahead of the game but most likely.. I will forget so remind me someone ok? say about JUNE .. they are so pretty. How can you fail to enjoy the gift of an ornament made with care? I know it would be impossible for me.

Elisabrat 10-14-2012 11:15 PM

ps I thought I had cornered the market on ornament ideas gone bad. Yup oh I can do that easy.. uh huh. sorry that is my market and I am not sharing with you guys.

Beeboop71 10-15-2012 03:41 AM

Just read 10 pages of postings and finally caught up. Amazing how manynthings happen in a weeks time. Brenda so sorry to hear the news about your father. Prayers for you and your family. Glad you got to spend sometime before his passing. Anastasia happy birthday!! My son just turned 15 on 10-11-12(wierd date huh??). Christmas is such a beautiful holiday and like so many of you I too love to play Christmas songs especially when putting up the tree. I actually collect Christmas albums and have a big variety from Tony Bennet, Amy Grant, Mariah Carey, and latin album from my late father in law who was a well known Latin Musician. He passed several years ago of cancer and we play his album every Christmas. I am enjoying seeing all the pics of everyone's ornaments. I love and want them all. :). I almost finished mine on my camping trip. Just a few more embellishments and I should be able to mail this week. Hope my partner likes it. Feeling blessed to be amongst such a giving and caring group of fellow quilters/crafters. Happy Monday all!

Brenda,

I am very sorry to have missed signing up for this swap. I have been off the air for a bit. I lost my Dad mid August and somehow this year has not been my year for keeping up.

I am very sorry to read that you are also experiencing some sadness in your family as well. Our Dad's are precious people in my lives.

Hopefully I will be better in tune for next years Ornament Swap. I enjoyed the one last year. I look forward to seeing all the pictures.

Oh my so many pages to read! Brenda, so sorry to hear about your dad. It is a blessing that you were able to say goodbye. Sending you prayers and hugs, and also to you owlvamp. So sorry to hear about your brother.

Elisabrat when I had to make ornaments to decorate a tree for a party I collected tons of small boxes and wrapped them in Christmas paper and tied on curly ribbon bows. They actually looked pretty cute. It is a great last minute filler ornament. When do you need ornaments by for the senior's tree?

OMG Krystyna I love those felt ornies, thanks so much for the link! Anastasia did you see the gnomie Santa, I think I will have to make him. Oh and a HAPPY BIRTHDAY ANASTASIA!

Darlene if you are in Ohio this coming weekend, http://www.ohioonestopshophop.com/

I haven't gotten out the Christmas albums yet, but soon! I love them all. My collection is all over the place musically. I have classical, Elvis, a bunch of country singers, the old Firestone christmas albums, and more.

And . . . I got TWO squishies on Saturday! And totally forgot to check the mail on Saturday. Geez, what can I say I was madly cross stitching. I had forgotten how time consuming that can be, and I hadn't done any since I got trifocals. Ouch!

Anyway, I received a really cute snowman ( and BONUS FABRIC) from Ladybug 1938. He is so cute, and the fabric she sent is beautiful. Thanks again Rosemary!

At from grann of 6 I received beautiful snowflakes! Aren't they lovely?! Thanks to you too Suzanne!

And this is what is making my head hurt trying to see close up (not easy with my trifocals)

lynnie 10-15-2012 09:52 AM

Brenda, so sorry to hear of your dads passing.
dugas31, recd your ornies. Got a pretty counted cross stitch one, such tiny stitches!
also, a christmas tree made out of bobbins, buttons and a spool as a trunk of a christmas tree
then decorated with ric rak. What a great idea, howd you think of that. I also got a nice notecard, that i thought washandmade, till i turned it over.
Sorry no pics, camera not working.
Thanks again.

owlvamp 10-15-2012 10:56 AM

Wow grann of 6 I love those. How did you make them?

They are done on the embroidery machine. I used organza to stitch on, they hold their shape better than just the stand alone stitching.
