I have lots of old spools and would never have thought to make the ornament you did. I love them. Thank you!!!!!!! sasquilter

I am happy you like them. Clover makes an extra small yo-yo template that makes it easy.

I bought my spools at Hobby Lobby -- I just cannot bring myself to use my old wooden spools. There are four in a package at Hobby Lobby and they have different sizes.

Just a tip the smaller spools fit on sewing machine spool holders and you can use the spools of thread with the large center holes on your machine, they fit over the small wooden spools.

owlvamp 11-14-2012 09:41 AM

Thanks for the tip. I have a bunch of thread I haven't used because I needed to get the side thingy for the large spools. I think I already have some on the small spools.

Thanks Quiltymom, I received my two ornaments yesterday and I love them both. Unfortunately, the Angel may not make it on the tree along with the snowman. I think she's going to watch over me in my car.The rearview mirror is just waiting for her. Thanks again.

brenda21 11-15-2012 08:58 AM

CHQ~you could always host an ornie swap with your quilt group...still plenty of time before Christmas, especially if they don't need to be mailed:thumbup:

terriquilt1 11-15-2012 09:13 AM

Very pretty ornaments, Quiltymom! I am getting so many great ideas on this thread; just need more time to work on the fun stuff!

Maybe next year we'll do that. The ladies are busy with so much right now that I don't think any of us have time for one more thing, plus I'm going in for surgery Dec. 12th. We met last night. I helped some of the ladies with the Christmas Tablerunner that Missouri Star Quilt Co. does a demo on. I have one finished and 2 more almost done. They turned out beautiful.

My wonderful group gave me a surprise BDay party last night. Our group celebrates everyone's BDay with a cake at the closest meeting, and we all give at least 3 FQ's each. Well, we were on a trip at my BDay, then Sandy hit and I had water in the basement and canceled the meeting. So last night they got me good. I got tons of FQ's, and they gave me a big gift card to JoAnn's. I love my ladies so much!! They really are the greatest group of women I know. We're all soooo different, but we work so well together. I'm am so thankful to have them in my life!!!!! I may just be making them all special ornaments for Christmas. We meet Dec. 19th for our Christmas party. Hope I can have them all done by then!!

owlvamp 11-15-2012 07:42 PM

I got the cutest ornament in the mail from kboone, she enclosed a note saying she is a beginning quilter just learning to paper piece, but from the looks of the ornament, I would say she has paper piecing down!!! I must add that I just went to the post office and got it today, opened it, admired it, took a pic...then my son, dil, and darling granddaughter came by...my lil granddaughter (she is 3) saw the ornament, grabbed it up while giggling and saying, "Grammy, is this for me?? I love him!!". Well, whats a grammy to do but say of course its for you sweetie!! :)...she gave me a big hug and said, "Thanks Grammy for making it for me!"...okay, okay...I thought about it for maybe a millisecond before explaining to her that grammy had been in an ornament swap, and that I made some ornaments and sent them to other people, and other people made some and sent them to me...and this one was my "surprise" today...and that I know it would be fine with the nice lady who made it if I "shared" it with her, and she could hang it on her tree this year...LOL...So, here is a picture of the much loved ornament:
Thanks so much Kim!!!

Some more great ornaments. still have not gotten my second one yet but its ok i know how life can get in the way sometimes. lol went and purchased my ham and turkey breast today man this year has really flew by.

Tothill 11-16-2012 11:00 PM

I am participating in my first two swaps right now. I was wondering how long after the mailing deadline should I wait to receive my item before becoming concerned?

It seems that almost everyone has received their ornaments, but I am still waiting.

I understand that if someone is sending to me from out of the Country it will take a bit longer, or even from the other side of the country.

Pouting on the sidelines.

marytoddliz 11-16-2012 11:10 PM

I love the snowman ornament! he is so cute! and I think it is great that your granddaughter wanted it! Awesome, I alos have a 3 year old Granddaughter and she is so wonderful, isn't it great being Grandma!

owlvamp 11-16-2012 11:17 PM

Beautiful snowman ornament.

jaba 11-17-2012 06:34 AM

Pm Brenda and ask if she knows whether your partner has sent to you. She'll inquire for you.

JuneBillie 11-17-2012 01:59 PM

More pretty ornaments. I can see why the sweet granddaughter wanted the cute ornament. I loved hearing the whole story.

JuneBillie 11-17-2012 02:04 PM

Oh, CountryHouseQuilter, I got me a tree type form that kind of spirals so that I can make it into a year round tree. It has lights too. It is not nice like yours, but it will due. I am excited to work on it, and add ornaments. It's about 4 feet, but I will have it on a round table in my front living room window where I am always sitting watching birds. Thank you for the inspiration. I hope you are doing ok.

lynnie 11-17-2012 02:31 PM

Chq, hoe are you feeling, how is surgery.
Had my left inee replaced on oct22 nd.
Hope youre up and better soon

CountryHouseQuilter 11-18-2012 04:53 AM

JuneBillie - sounds like a wonderful tree!!!! I love coming home in the evening and turning on my lights. Mine sits in front of my diningroom windows and you can see it from the road that runs in front of our house. I always like to think that someone coming home in the evening will see it and it will make their day a little brighter.

Lynnie - Sugery is scheduled for Dec. 12th, just a little less than a month away. Would have gotten it done sooner but didn't want to do it right before Thanksgiving as I have a day trip on Tuesday. Also, taking my Mom on a day trip Dec. 8th. Didn't want to take a chance I couldn't go, she's so excited for the trip. So Dec. 12th. I'll be off for Christmas and possibly New Year's. Depends on how well I make out. Hoping that this is a breeze for me. I'm tired of all the issues I seem to have that are getting worse.

sistahdebbra 11-23-2012 06:30 PM

I received two awesome ornaments from Robinlee this week. The Snowman is sooo cute and loving that rosy nose. Will attempt to post pics later. Posting pics is so hard for me, I don't understand why. But I will try.

starshine 11-23-2012 08:41 PM

Cute ornies still showing up. I'm glad we don't have to pick one ourselves it would be hard to choose. I think someone said early on something about everyone making one for everyone else-then we would all have one of each!

Happy Tails 11-24-2012 03:18 AM

Ohhhhhhh I'd be in for that!!! lol best start right now for next year :)

CountryHouseQuilter, you take it easy after surgery, and I hope it takes care of any of the problems you are having now. Little prayer sent up for you.

Yes, the 3rd may be right but I was out of town till 11/09. And these are the photos of ornaments rec'd from RobinLee. I hope they go thru. I tried twice and each time it failed. So frustrating.

Kboone obviously you have mastered paper piecing asap. I watched a video over and over.. uh what am I supposed to do? I tried watching you tube, reading a how to.. and still lost me. I received one of your cuties for the senior ladies and it will be picked asap. Here are few more pics of the lovely thing I have received from the very generous and thoughtful ladies here at the quilting board for the senior home. So many contributions and such pretty variety. the first pics are of the eye glass cases (adorable buttons but velcro opening for the case!) and tissue holders that Miriam so thoughtfully made. I absolutely love the colors! if they lose these they were never going to see them in the first place. Amazing! and she created the eye case using I think she said an 8" or 8 1/2" block how clever! also not to let them pass are some very pretty ornaments with a nice new bottle of hand lotion there were donated, another group of ornaments that were made by children and sent all the way across country :), so many just take a look and smile with me. The first batch I posted and sent down to the bay area, another I took down so these are the last that will go with me. Thanks again everyone. I will find my note which has all the donors and post their names. I am not the most organized and my apologies. I wanted to get pics up before I forgot to do that too! yikes, too much to remember.

very nice! some pretty talented ladies on the boards!

CountryHouseQuilter 11-26-2012 12:58 PM

JuneBillie and Pat625 - thanks for the prayers. I'm a little scared of the surgery, as I've been fortunate enough in my 50yrs to have only had my tonsils out (age 6) and a c-section. Stuff like this always worries me, but if it will make my problems go away then I'm good.

Thanksgiving day was great, but all the good food that I've been avoiding caught up with me that night into the weekend. I suffered a bit with pain, but I'm back to being good now, and I feel better. I have a lot to do before surgery, but the 12th can't get here soon enough!!!!

I'll be decorating the house, and my "friend" tree soon. Putting all my special ornaments I got from the swap on it. Can't wait. And I totally agree, being part of this swap and the SS swap has really helped get me in more of a Christmas spirit this year!!!!

Tothill 11-28-2012 10:15 PM

Yippee, my ornament arrived today from Patti in Ontario.

I will have to ask DH to take a photo tomorrow.

I received a lovely tree and Santa ornaments, as well as a fun piece of santa fabric and a lovely card with a handmade star button.

I have been spoiled.

owlvamp 11-29-2012 03:17 PM
