Awww so cute! Must.. do.. math.. must .. not.. create... Aaahhh... stupid math always getting in the way of fun.

Anastasia 10-06-2012 11:21 AM

So.. question, you ornament makers... Those of you that have used sequin pins in smooth foam balls.. Did you glue or not glue? if you did not glue, did you find many problems with pins coming out over time? trying to decide if i should start over, use this as a prototype, or not worry about it..

lynnie 10-06-2012 12:48 PM

love that stocking, and everything else so far.

terriquilt1 10-06-2012 01:22 PM

Jaba,
Love the reindeer. I have a small collection of wooden reindeer and he would fit right into my herd! Good job!

marytoddliz 10-06-2012 01:49 PM

Anastasia, don't worry about it GF, if you did not glue and they start to come apart we can glue them back together.

Does anyone remember the little elf that used to sit on a small sampler of Chocolates? I want to find that pattern, but when I google little elf with chocolate, I get everything but that pattern! He is either red or green made with a real doll face.... HELP!

RedGarnet222 10-06-2012 02:12 PM

Mary,
I am not sure but, martha stewart used to have one in her christmas craft section. Maybe it is still there to make?

mdall 10-06-2012 04:54 PM

I thought I was married to Santa with my ex-husband--He only came once a year!!

Pat, oh Pat. That is histerical and it was just what I needed. Yes, the fact is I am married to Santa. But he does do that more than once a year. Obviously, we have five kids. Anyway, thanks for the laugh.

Now for everyone else, did you not understand. They are all mine, mine, mine. Now leave them alone or the rest of you will get coal and sticks. Remember, I am married to Santa and I have the power of persuation.LOL

lauriejo 10-06-2012 05:29 PM

I used glue when I made the ornaments with beads on pins. But I agree with MaryBeth, don't take it apart now if you didn't glue. Just send it to me and I will guard it very carefully. ;)

No MaryBeth I don't remember the chocolate box elf, now you will have to describe him for me okay cuz I am very curious. My parents have two elf ornaments that are made by stringing circles of felt, I love them.

Anastasia 10-06-2012 06:08 PM

hehe ok well I glued the second row and well.. I played with some glitter glue.. it's coming out pretty but hateful.. my poor fingers.

So.. those of you who have made beaded pinned ornamenty things.. how the heck do you protect your fingers?

Anastasia 10-06-2012 11:04 PM

Ok so I got all impatient to see what the colors on the first ornament would look like so now I'm waiting for gobs of things to dry and so I can't play with it, which is honestly fine cause my fingers are little hamburgers now.. and so I did another ornament.. so yay.. I got ONE finished. Here, lookie.. also.. uhm.. I'm really bad at evenly spacing things. just.. fyi.. hehe

Elisabrat 10-07-2012 01:48 AM

that is very pretty anastasia and hamburger fingers? yikes poor kid. Cured me of wishing to make one for sure!
just send me one surely you will grow calluses over time right?

marybeth look of vintage elf period not the candy. The face is available for sure. We called that little guy Richard lol and you can find the elf reproductions really cheap I know as I bought one and sent it to my sis. He was her favorite doll in the doll house. I had a Madame Alexander doll and she had Richard. He was the hubby and she would take him and say RICHARD YOU ARe A BAD BAD HUSBAND and then whack him on the floor many times. Poor richard. She maybe had some emotional issues huh? lol.. she loves her elf man. Fabric legs right with knots in them for knees etc and skinny arms and filled body, plastic/rubber face.. you can find him on ebay .. got me wanting a few myself now..

Elisabrat 10-07-2012 01:55 AM

just went to ebay, vinyl elf boy face if you just want the face, they also have santa faces too and its vintage elf knee hugger is what I think you mentioned Marybeth.. tell me if I am close. oh so cute I need more! I am a vintage addict for holiday stuff.. good memories I think and more to be made. I love ornaments.. more more more!!

brenda21 10-07-2012 07:31 AM

jaba 10-07-2012 10:14 AM

Cindy60545 10-07-2012 11:02 AM

Whew! Been working on ornaments today. Some are drying waiting for next step, some are waiting for putting together, I'm sitting at various stages here! I have to have them done before Tuesday night or they won't get finished til after the quilt show next weekend! Will be there Wed - Sat working it with the guild! (I've got 5 entries, hope I bring some bling home!)

Anastasia 10-07-2012 11:25 AM

*crossing fingers for the bling*.. I had these cute little asian take out style boxes, with christmas scenes on them that I was going to stuff my ornaments into... but they don't fit.. *pout* so now I have to find another suitable container. *sigh*

lauriejo 10-07-2012 11:49 AM

Cute ornie Anastasia, but what about my pink one???? LOL I so remember those hamburger fingers. The ones I made were from kits and they had long pins that I threaded beads on. I made a half dozen one year and never again.

kiffie2413 10-07-2012 11:53 AM

The bells are lovely! I am just trying to decide which ornament(s) to send to my 2 people...decisions, decisions...lol..

But then I decided, well.. shoot... I should make these as presents.. but that means I need more colors. Dangit.. well.. I can make a pink one of the one I have finished.. will that work? hehehe.

My kids and I made those from kits years ago. We used a pencil eraser to push the pins in; saves on the fingers.

lynnie 10-07-2012 01:20 PM

Pretty ornament.

Elisabrat 10-08-2012 01:18 AM

wow you used eraser heads to push them in what a great idea. Saving the fingers is a very good thing. So my ornament is not going to fit in a take out box? hows about a priority mail box? I think it could zoom over here really fast and that would not be an issue for me. I am thinking red hows about a red one? or maybe a gold one? or maybe a.. oh maybe that one! yeah thats the ticket. Mine will be finished tomorrow. I am not as prolific as everyone else. Two for each of my pals I am sorry. I will try to make them two that are worth it.

Mine are made and ready to go.....................

grann of 6 10-08-2012 08:34 AM

Those stockings are cute. I am working on my ornaments today. This has turned out to be very labor intensive. I would have made something a little easier, but I realized that I gave all my crafting supplies to DGDs Girl Scout Troop. I had oodles of beads, sequins, wooden shapes, all sorts of stuff. Then they wanted donations for fund raising, so I gave them everything I thought I would never use again. How did I know I was going to join an ornament swap????

Elisabrat 10-08-2012 08:40 AM

oh Grann you have FABRIC your not lost at all.. oodles of little fabric things you can make, like angels or just different cookie cutter shapes out of pretty fabric I think you will make something wonderful. Hey has anyone found an ornament site they like for ideas? just curious I spent a good hour last night on pintrest searching ornaments and boy did I come up with some good ones.

:D :D :D :D

Anastasia 10-08-2012 12:08 PM

hehe well I found a nail file to use to shove the pins in. But I gotta warn ya, same warning as the other one, I can't make a straight line to save my life.. or even spacing of anything.. hehehe. But it's cute. It's.. holy hand-grenade-ish.. for those of you who might be Monty Python fans.

Quiltermomma, good for you. I am trying snowflakes, and I get to the end and doesn't the thread come out of the thread take-up lever and make a huge birdsnest on the back. So now I gotta fix that. Don't know why, but both things I have tried have become a nightmare (and I don't even live on Elm Street):p.
