Mjp love your lotus block! Congrats muse, aren't those grand babies fun. I have really enjoyed being in Florida this winter to watch our little Myla grow. She delights us everyday. Going to miss this when we go back to Wyoming for the summer. I'm already thinking next October can't come fast enough!

She is very astute and pointed out to me that I love to make art quilts and many of my squares are little art quilts. I realized then that my goal of learning to become a better than beginner piecer wasn't the right goal. I'm really enjoying doing the raw edge applique and working with the stripes (well this isn't art quilts). I want to thank everyone for being so supportive in my off beat ideas about what a square should look like. You know, I think that's why I love this swap so much. I so enjoy receiving someone else's version of what they see in my fabric. I say just keep up the good work. |
MJP I love appliqué but to me even raw edge appliqué is a pain in the you know what trying to get the machine stitching even. I'm always impressed with someone who can do it. I'm pretty much a traditional piercer and love receiving blocks that are more artsy or where someone has thought out of the box. Hope you enjoy receiving traditional blocks as much as I like receiving artsy blocks

I'm w/ you Terri, applique is not my forte'. I can't do "raw edge" b/c I don't get along well w/ the iron on stick-um stuff. I made an exception for the Abbey Road, but used paper templates and folded under and machine stitched. The only other exception I make is my EPP it is already turned under and I applique it to solid backgrounds (I'm counting the Dresden plate in w/ that category) Oh I almost forgot I did do the striped hand block but I hand appliqued it. That was another rare exception to get a cool effect.

Basically only you boom ladies get any applique from me!!! lol

Mjp, have you ever done the yearly Row by Row quilt? The patterns last year seemed to be mostly raw edge applique. That was how I got my feet wet with applique. I had so much fun doing it, too. This is mine, 2016, theme "Home Sweet Home". Believe it or not, the Graceland row was all pieced! Not one applique in it... That one 'stretched' me, too. Great learning quilt.

Sewbiz love your row by row. Chickens are a hoot and Graceland is very special
