Amazing Jayne. You're making my block look really good. :) . The secondary design is going to really add to the quilt and be very fun to quilt. Thanks for inspiring us.

Jayne, your quilt is going to be awesome when finished! Can't wait to see it finished.

Ladies, I've been looking through the Gallery again and I am just amazed at the talent in this group. Thank you all for letting me count you as my online friends and allowing me to play along with your awesome talents.

Boom 20 info

It looks like I can start sign-ups for Boom 20 mid-December. F8s won't be due until after the start of 2018. I've got to firm up the dates and then get the go-ahead from the QB admin. So for those interested, keep an eye on this thread for sign-ups next month. FYI, ONLY F8s or larger fabric pieces with selvages removed will be accepted. All others will be returned unswapped at your expense. Please plan accordingly.

I hope everyone has a lovely Thanksgiving!

Thanks, Janice... looking forward to the signups! It’s good to have a break through the holidays, too. :D Hope you have a great Thanksgiving as well!

Yea!! An early Christmas present from Janice! I am so looking forward to Boom 20.
My Autumn strips are done. Just gotta' join them and do the binding. I am so pleased with both of my Boom 19 quilts. When I get that binding done, it'll be two major Christmas presents DONE! I'll post a pic when it's finished.

The F8s have gotten smaller because fabric has shrunk from 45" wide to 43 or 42. Now you can't get 4 F8 across one width of fabric if you cut the selvages off. You have to buy 3 1/2 yards of fabric for 19 F8, used to be able to get by with 2 1/2 and you're left with 9 " pieces. These can be used for borders. I know I underestimated, only bought 3 yards, last time and had to send a day of the dead piece for Ann , had 9" pieces left over.

Occasionally someone has an odd shape left. I remember Kass? had that happen in boom 18 and I volunteered to take one of those. She let us know in advance. If someone gets stuck you could send two of those 9 " pieces to me, that would be more than a F8 anyway.

The group made a very good suggestion to me when I sent a second fabric to go along with the first. They suggested sending a 13x13 so it could be used as a background square if necessary and several people did this. My second quilt is going to look much more unified than the first. I love my DODead quilt but the Hawaiian quilt is going to someone else and they may not be as adventurous as me.

I love the timing for for the next boom. I'm going to be visiting family back east in early December. I'll take my BIL to a quilt store and let him pick out fabric for his quilt. I have the best BIL. My sister passed about 5 years ago. Her husband calls my 95 year old mother every day, visits with groceries every week and when she's had to go the hospital unexpectedly he goes with her and stays until one of us can fly to NY. He is the rock of our family so I'm glad I'll be able to send your fantastic squares to him.

He sounds like a BIL to love forever. Bless him, he deserves a quilt!

sewbizgirl 11-11-2017 08:55 AM

Wow... that is a great brother-in-law!! He deserves a special quilt. I'm so sorry you lost your sister....

For F8 sizing... Would it be okay to cut our yardage at 18" intervals, and then remove selvedges and cut the remaining piece in half, then half again, vertically? With prewashing and removing selvedges you end up with about 40" of width, which would make our F8ths 18"x10" or 10.5" if we are lucky.

In theory, a F8 is supposed to be 18x11, but in reality, with prewashing and removing selvedges, they are 18x10. I hope that is ok because I do not want to have to cut some weird way that ends up with big leftover pieces as MJP described. I want to cut one yard into 8 equal pieces... much more efficient.

In the last swap I received a couple of pieces that were about 9" or even 8.5" at one end... clearly not a F8. As long as you honestly cut your yard into 8 equal pieces, they should be F8s. I just want to clarify, because I do not want my fabric returned to me at my expense! :D

I would prefer what sewbiz suggested too. I cut the way I did because I'm pretty new to the boom and that's the only way I could get 11". I'm certainly willing to work with 10" so people can the cost by a lot.
