Do they all go to one other person who uses them to make 12 blocks for person A? Or, do 12 people get an 1/8 and make a block using that and their own fabric? Then, does Person A make one block for 12 different quilters, or 12 blocks for one quilter? How do you know what other fabric to use - just something that goes with theirs?

I'm really intrigued, I just am not sure I know what's going on!

well, I send my 19 fat eighths to the coordinator, Janice, and she sorts them into 19 piles. Then when she gets the other 19 ladies packs of fat eighths she divides them up. Then she send each of us a squishy envelope with 19 different fat eighths. There are usually instructions on what the fabric owners would like in shades of color or theme but we make our own vision for that fat eighth. Then we pack them back in the squishy and send them back to Janice who faithfully sorts them back out to the rightful owner & drops them in the mail to us! You might check on the very first page, I think there are very detailed instructions. I just kinda gave you the skinny.

Mrs. Halibut, it's so much fun to get one piece of each person's fabric and create a block with it! Then when we each get our blocks back, the resulting quilts are so pretty. Here's one from my first boom (a quilt for me) and then another one that I planned for my SIL who is a Star Wars geek:

Mine

Star Wars Storm Troopers

Both of these were quilted with the QAYG method.

Sewbizgirl and GramE,

those are beautiful! Sewbiz, am I right in assuming you sent fat 1/8s, all of the SAME fabric, floral on the first and star wars on the second, and then members added their own fabric and made the blocks? And, GramE, if I join a boom, could I make the same block for everyone, just out of their own fabric?

GramE, thank you for the "skinny"! There are instructions, but no skinny that I could find. : )

mrshalibut 07-15-2017 02:03 PM

OK, nevermind. I think I've got it! I went searching on past "Boom" threads, I can't wait to join!!! Too bad I missed this time, but maybe that's OK. I should be finishing up some other quilts anyway! : )

Mrshalibut you will get requests from some swappers asking you use only one color with their fabric. As long as the block you choose meets the swappers request you can make the same block. The majority of us make different blocks because we make blocks that the fabric speaks to us

mrshalibut, we would love to have you next time! Hang out here and in the Autumn group this boom, and you'll see how we do it. Then you'll be confident to join the next one.

I'm doing something different this time... sent in all different florals from my stash, to make some scrappy sampler-type lap quilts for ladies in the hospital. We'll see how that turns out!

Are you Mr. Shalibut, or Mrs Halibut, just curious?

Ladies, I have had the BEST day today that I can ever remember for me. I got to spend the entire day with my DD#1 & SIL, 5 of my 6 grown grandchildren and all 4 of my great-grandchildren. We celebrated my great-granddaughter's, Joely, third birthday. Today was the first time I've actually been able to hold the 2 youngest Great-grands. Talk about 2 arms full of love...I had it today. God has been good to this old woman.

What a wonderful picture! Aren't grandkids great? Love them to pieces! <3<3 I got to talk to my grandson tonight. He is in Ohio and his 11th birthday is on Monday. He's my pride and joy!
