I forgot to note something in my instructions to everyone. If you could, would you please make a notation on the spreadsheet of the following request.

Please no novelty or seasonal prints.

By "novelty" I mean pictures of things (chickens, coffee cups, buildings, toys, etc). If you would use it in an I-Spy it's probably a novelty print.

By "seasonal" I include all holiday fabrics (Christmas, Halloween, Easter - etc.).

Thanks!

Wooooo you got a great block. It didn't have far to travel though ;)

Mailed all my f8 today ... will be stalking my mailman's truck

charlottemarie 08-20-2012 06:59 PM

That is very unique! I like it, so colorful!

immemother 08-20-2012 07:00 PM

can someone please make a travel portall so buddy'smom can send me through a block?

Elisabrat 08-20-2012 08:42 PM

QUICK Scottie the portal she is open but I can't hold it much longer.. buddysmom .. hurry hurry.. oh no we lost her.. darned it. I tried.

April was thinking the same thing wht a quiet bunch sheesh, you all were not this silent before. Ok fine let me be the big mouth in the group, how to stick out like a sore thumb..

HAH I received two pieces of fabric today sadly from my diamond group. Get chopping kiddos send away. I will have finished and return marytodd lizs tomorrow and probably the cute fabric grinch will get done and fly home tomorrow which means.. what will I do if my mailbox is empty? April the peacock is what you sent us isnt it? that is going to be a very subtle shy quilt so much like you, in fact like me too. One day you will have to stretch a bit girl and just go out on a wing and get wild. Do it for me in fact :) I can live vicariously through your adventures.

Oh dear no novelties and no holidays does this mean that chipendale Christmas fabric wont work with your 30's fabric? shoot.. guess I will have to save it for your next project Doghousemom.. btw what fabric are you sending out? I have tons of blenders so the men with ties can wait..maybe on the 3 yr olds grinch quilt now that would inspire some lovely chats with momma wouldnt it?

I notice no one here has made me my virtual dinner. I guess its eggs again for this old lady. sigh.. see you 'morrow!

Okay I will be more chatty. My packages are ready and will be sent out on Saturday morning.

Each of the Asian themed fq's I am sending out are totally different. If you have a red solid fabric I think that would unify them nicely! (HINT)

Feel free to keep any left over scraps. Add it to your scrap stash.

nygal 08-21-2012 03:25 AM

OMGoodness. I just noticed everyone is mailing out Fat 8's. I had all Fat Quarters ready to go. Guess I'll be going back into my studio today and trimming them all down to Fat 8's. I'm glad I didn't seal the bags yet!

DogHouseMom 08-21-2012 03:47 AM

Oooh Jacquie ... that's pretty!! I have a ton of blue batiks that I used in my Jamaica landscape quilt that would love to play with that fabric.

DogHouseMom 08-21-2012 05:23 AM

Lovely block April and Mom! I love the yellow!

Where's my mailman??

nygal 08-21-2012 05:34 AM

That is very pretty and so colorful!!

LovingIzabella 08-21-2012 06:16 AM

Linda you know I am so meek and mild.....not sure I can stretch lmao I have those Christmas pinups and the girls int he stored laughed when I bought it. They said we didn't think anyone would actually buy this!! Really?? Who wouldn't enjoy a Christmas Hunk to sleep with??????? :)
The yellow is actually a beautiful orange...boy did my phone butcher those colors lol
The peacock is what you are all getting..have fun, go wild, be meek-whatever turns YOU on. I will love each and every block that I get in return.
Hmmmm Only red only red...do I have reds..yup got those covered but they may be tone on tones not solids..gotta check..may have to shop OH The HORROR!!! LOL

jaba 08-21-2012 06:39 AM

Nygal do you want only red? Have to see your fabric when it comes, lots of shades of red out there. Don't no if I posted this on here but ignore my album names ,can't get "water" off of there to save me, but all the blocks for rubies and diamonds, sent and received will be posted in them. Sometimes it hurts to be so computer stupid!! Just overlook please, I'm an old lady, just trying to put in a full day of work, at the "sewing machine":) Guess I better hit the shower so I can go to the post office and see if I have any little bundles. Zero in so far and 55 to go.

DogHouseMom 08-21-2012 08:12 AM

Jaba ... 55 blocks. WOW. I'm in awe.

Sue (putting in 8 hours at my office job but clearly not exactly "working" at the moment now am I?)

jaba 08-21-2012 09:08 AM

So many blocks because this one, diamonds group and a couple of more extra's for a side swap. They'll get done for sure, hope so by a little before Thanksgiving time. That's my goal, we'll see. Got 3 from the diamond group this morning but nada from this one yet.

Have you been busy reading or watching tv? I have "mindless" times too. lol

Elisabrat 08-21-2012 11:25 AM

Behaving here gonna go take a snooze then whip up my grinch block. I had a bad block day yesterday. Six inside seams, all done nicely :) block looked great! ok its 1/4 inch TOTAL all around off.. so today I took every single darned seam out and will do it again. It was only 1/4 short square enough to be a failure. now praying the fabric has integrity still.. pray with me. I do not want to cry. I wish I was brighter than the average bear. I could not get that the one fabric I was switching out in the pattern was green not blue and for somereason once again starting cutting the wrong ones and wouldnt you know its the wrong one of my pals fabric not mine which I have half yards of.. argh.

lots of red here from cherry to blue reds phew! checks and asian prints wow that would look.. interesting. you try it first April. Shoot, out of checks cause I dont buy them.. cant follow a straight line apparently (see above). From here on I am pencil marking each and every single seam.. no room for error there even a scant 1/4 inch single seam.. which I think is halfway between 1/8th and 1/4 correct? save me from myself.

Anastasia 08-21-2012 11:50 AM

mostly tv.. I did piece together part of a backing for the baby quilt top I finished, and I did cut some strips to put a border on that said backing.. and I did a bunch of ironing of some blocks I had previously sewed for another quilt top I'm working on.. but that's about as far as I've gotten.. haha.

all my f8's went into the post yesterday. i gave them all a little kiss to help them on their journey's. be kind to them, they've come a long way. this is the fabric you will all receive. hope you like it.

i have put in a note with each one, but my plan is to sash with an orange and bind in teal blue. i will also be setting the quilt on point for something a little different.

jaba 08-21-2012 07:25 PM

Anastasia hope you get to feeling better soon, immemother I love your fabric, can't wait to get it. Idea's are rollong in my head. See what everyone has to say in the morning, time for the shower and bed today.

Elisabrat 08-21-2012 11:54 PM

lOVE YOUR FABRIC! I receive this one magazine from the Uk Molly Makes fun mag with crocheting, crafting and good little articles on designers etc of fabric.. very cute for little ideas. Price? horrible but magazine cute. The fabric your using I think is USA but has the feel that is all the rage over in Europe right now. colorful and happy and I can't wait to receive it.

I received a third package from Diamonds.. ruby gals where are they? I think mine should hit a few of you tomorrow. I have grand plans of doing my two I have here in the morning but plans are what they are. I seem to take a whole lot more time making one silly block than I used to. What is the average amount of time do you spend thinking about which colors, picking your block design and cutting and sewing? I have this naggy feeling I am the slowest. Worry about getting it all right. It is however fun to see the different fabric choices then its like art watching what everyone creates. .. same thing different results. So fun.

Ladies, here are the asian themed fabrics I am sending out Saturday morning. What do you all think would be a good color that will unify them?? I was thinking of red. Black would work too. But red would be brighter. What do you think? A few would do better if they were "fussy cut" to show the nice geisha etc.

DogHouseMom 08-22-2012 03:52 AM

Immemother - I remember seeing that one on the original boom thread before we were broken into groups. So glad I get to play with that one!!!

Elsabrat - I saw that Diamonds are way ahead of us, some folks have received 3 or 4 F8 and made blocks and posted them already!! Whew! As for being the slowest - that award might go to me cause I take a long time just to pick colors and blocks. I'll let each fabric speak to me and tell me what block it wants to be when it grows up.

NYGal - Another color that would unify them all is GOLD. Will be fun to work with those!

Will my mailman bring me anything to play with today? Let's hope!!

moonwork42029 08-22-2012 05:13 AM

In the last couple booms I did, each block would take a few hours just to sew as I was trying out new paper piecing patterns...don't know what I'll do this time. I was lucky to do a block every 3 days with the rest of "life".

travelinggramma 08-22-2012 06:12 AM

Oh My!! April - I have a rainbow of colors and looking forward to doing wild things with your FQ.
Jacqie - I have a storehouse of blues. Seems, looking at my stash, that is my main color!!
nygal - never worked with asian fabric before - so will enjoy the stretch.
Not sure about reds - there are just way too many varieties and will they all come together?? I am a bit color blind - so always worry about what really goes and what clashes!!
My squishes went out first thing Monday morning. The Postlady marked them special that they shouldn't go through the machine and they ended up at .65 which I was happy about. She kept asking what were in them .... and if they needed insurance....i told her that it was not valuable going out as a FQ but priceless when it goes out as a block! she didn't understand.
Work three very stressful days (TWTh)and no sewing those days. hoping by Friday I will be able to start to play. I put my other projects away except for a set of placemats which don't take much brain power!! So looking forward to play with you all!!

travelinggramma 08-22-2012 06:17 AM

Oh - immemother - just noticed I got to play with your beautiful fabric. I love love love it.
Lets just hope my measuring skills improve cause lately I am not coming up with 12.5" blocks. My august block partner got two - on that was 12.5 and the other was 13 that couldn't be sewed down to a 12" block! I do not like scant 1/4". It doesn't make sense. It doesn't make a sturdy quilt. but i will keep attempting!!

jaba 08-22-2012 06:37 AM

NYGal I think you're going to end up with alot of shades of red that in the end just won't match. On my swatches I stated no red, don't care what other colors, there's just a few to pick from that will go with mine. When I put it together my setting fabric is in the same fabric line and has the red in it. That way it's all 1 shade and I won't have to fight it. If it were me, I'd say no red and add that yourself so it's all 1 shade and unifies your quilt. My opinion only. Keep measuring travelinggramma, it's really so much easier for the receiver if those blocks measure 12 1/2 X 12 1/2". Better too big than too small. I had about 3 from the last boom that I just could not use because they were 11 3/4 to 12" and the way the block was you couldn't "add a border". Think maybe later on they'll end up as throw pillows. Haven't gone to the post office yet, hope there's some little pkgs. in there. All should be getting my soon, they were mailed Monday.

LovingIzabella 08-22-2012 08:15 AM

I have to agree with the opinions already voiced NYGal. Red varies greatly and you may end up with something that hugely contrasts versus comes together. I would say send your fabric and ask for no red but anything else that goes and then sash and set with a red you buy. It is amazing how this ends up because usually the blocks all pull together in the end quite nicely :)
It is okay to not be at the head of the pack :) Remember slow and steady wins the race.
