Actually could I do small groups instread of one large?
|
What are everyone's thoughts about using a directional fabric? I don't want to make folks try to play matchy-matchy with the directions if I don't have to. I have only enough to send the F8 to everyone ... otherwise I'd send a FQ to compensate.
The fabric I really wanted to use ... I only have 1.5 yards <sniffle>. |

This is the fabric I'm contemplating using. The print and direction is rather small as you can see by my 6.5" square ruler.
Will it be too difficult to keep the directions straight given that we only have a F8 to work with? I've never worked a boomerang before so opinions are helpful. |

OK ... perhaps plan B. I found a yard of two fabrics from the same line.

Winner of McCall's Quilting!!!!! Husband came home from work and drew from the basket. Free subscription for 1 year goes to Goldendogs55. Congrats! Hope you enjoy it.
|
To check if you don't know you are sewing a correct 1/4", get a lined index card, line your foot up on one line and see if your sewing comes out on the other line. They are exactly 1/4" apart, and they never lie!
|
I want to join in....This sounds like a lot of fun...Count me in for a large group
|
Dotty I am quilting My boom 6 now and will post a picture! Yours is pretty!
|
ooo I like the setting I was trying to think of something different for my boom 7 and this is a great idea
|
Linda, I love that fabric its beautiful!
|
I love the seuss fabrics I bought a flannel panel with the Cat in the hat on it...is so cute!
|
I'm going to think about this today at work. I was in the boom 6 and loved it. I have a lot going on right now, so I want to make sure before I sign up. I'm sure I probably will though. lol
|
I like plan B better but that is just me:) Need to get my fabric washed today:) This will be so much fun. This will be my first time doing this swap.

Okay...I caved and signed up for a small group -- If April runs short of people for a large group I'll consider switching.
Suggestion for group names -- Gemstones -- Diamonds, Emeralds, Rubies, Opals, etc Shapes -- Circles, Squares, Triangles, Hexs, etc Colors -- Red, Blue, Yellow, Green, etc Just in case April was having name blockage :) |

Doghousemom, both fabric choices are very pretty fabrics. {A} would be a little more difficult but not impossible. Looking at the pattern reminds me of a quilt block itself. If I got the fabric I think I would make a block like the one below (perfect match). The fabric just screams out "make me into squares". The {B} choice is also pretty. My choice would be make two quilts=sign up for two sets of 15 and send out as many as you can of each of the three fabrics! http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7085/7...1526d034_m.jpg

Quiltingmommy
Thanks. I've not made too many blocks with directional fabric, and I've never made one with a limited amount of fabric. I would hate to send it out and the recipient struggled with the amount of fabric to make the directions match. As for two groups ... wish I could. I've got a lot on my plate. With this being my first (hopefully not my last) boomerang I think I'll stick to the small group to make sure I can do it and I like it (don't think there will be much of a problem with the later - it's the former I'm worried about). As it is I have another project I have to finish first as there is a deadline (baby due!). |

So... today I took all my practice blocks and put them into a lap quilt for Dh's aunt. Not bad. I still need to border it. But, I need to buy a fabric for that. As you see, I had that one that was not big enough and I had to add a bit of fabric to it. I don't like doing that, but for this I did it. :)

Wow, I've never seen 'possum fabric before.
I got my fabric washed, cut and bagged. I have included a note with my name and info in each baggie. I've got the tiny polka-dot fabric. I have been thinking about the overall feeling that I want from the quilt and I think light pink and chocolate brown would look best with the print. http://www.quiltingboard.com/image/p...AIBAABBAQAOw== http://www.quiltingboard.com/image/p...AIBAABBAQAOw== |

I tried to add pics in my last post but it didn't work out. I found some images online of the color scheme I am going with. My fabric has the turquoise blue, and I'm asking for the light pink and browns from you all. Happy quilting |
I like that color combo quilter mommy. You know I always go for the lavenders so have to remember this. Not going to give you a pic but if you get my fabric, imagination is all yours. Blueberry pie, banana basket, bowl of tomatoes? I'm sure you know by now. From swaps, I have soooooo many blocks to put together I thought I could make table runner and placemats. Last boom I'm making a shadow box style, batik swap...haven't started yet. Ironed fabric for this today, cut tomorrow, wrote out little notes today, sooooo think I'll have to wait to address names. I'm partially ready to send out quickly. Let the fun begin!!
|
I love those two fabrics Sue. Those would be wonderful to play with especially if you mention your "vision" for them ie who they might be made for and colors you would want or not want. I love them.

Kensington, that added strip ties it in rather well. Quick on your feet there! Possums? possums??? sure. Bring 'em on. Cowgirls never quit when faced with a challenge. Of course, I am stumped but heck its a quilt you HAVE to do living where you do.. hey I live in Avery. Maybe next time I send birds and cages out.. hum... you got me thinking dear. Not a bad thing, now all I gotta do is remember what I was thinking about!

Keningston....love the blocks all together...see you have the hang of it.
Not sure of the possums yet...it could be a "tease" just to get some people worried about the critters (country furbabies) coming...I have some lovely blue too or a great halloween snoopy one... Yes, that's a possum "hiding" in our tree by the front porch. Yes those are 3 baby racoons in the bird feeder on our front porch. So a critter quilt would be appropriate around here. |
Barbara, keep working on it and trust in hope that it will come back. Lost mine 10 yrs ago to nerve problems and it was a whole lot of work, terrific OT help and belief. Today you would never know and I am sewing and stitching again. Don't give up and try. I am happy your doing well enough to write us! Keep watching, its inspiration.

I love the critters~ so cute. I once told a girlfriend that if you can think of it I guarantee they have put it on fabric!
I have my fabric cut and bagged, ready for the addresses. I am going with Christmas-themed quilt. The colors are not your typical Christmas Green and Red, but still will work. I will post pic's as soon as I find my camera~ my sewing room is a mess. |

Iam sending out all shades of purple ,would likes yellows an green, goin to send sample of colors iam usein, well have them ready thiso week
|
All -- if you have special requests for colors, please help us remember by putting a note in the package when you mail it out. I know I won't remember all of the special requests without a visual aid (ok a note) to keep with the f8. This will really help me and I'm sure it will really help everyone else too.
If there's no note, then I take it to mean you have no preferences/scheme and we can do whatever colors go nicely . |
I would like to be in the Lump of Coal group please. I am not sure I am ready for the Emerald or Diamond group yet lol. Ok, Rubies for me thank you very much.
That quilt is beautiful and who snuck into my yard to photograph MY animals? Next thing you know I will find my turkeys all over the internet too! You have to stop chumming for critters my dear. Then they will be to full to wander back over here. Off to work on my amish block. Then to write those notes, goal of the day. My poor little fingers will be worn out writing to all of you. I can't wait to get my packages and see what everyone is working with. Its fun I think stepping outside of the box. I am struggling with some dumb bee fabrics my sis gave me to work with for her. Its one of those one of these things is not like the other, one of these things just doesnt belong. Argh.. and she wants all of those things in that quilt. Another challenge. (hey .. on the backside?... nah..but how does one put primaries and then one random baby pink in a quit and make it work. .time will tell) Have a wonderful day .. back tonight to see whatis up. You guys are addicting. Thanks. An addiction I can handle. |
Your possum fabric is just adorable!! What a fun quilt you will have!!!

MoonWork ... I'm up for some Possum Stew! I've got some lovely woodsy batiks and some northcott stonehenge fabrics that would really blend nicely with those critters!
And if you really were not head-over-heels with sending possum fabric and getting Possum Stew in return ... then I guess you'll just have join TWO groups! |
